Build & Migrate
Visualsoft to Shopify Migration
Own the store, not the contract.
(opens in a new tab) Visualsoft bundles the platform, the hosting, the build and the support into one monthly relationship, which is a real strength until you want to change one of them. We move the store onto a Shopify you own outright: every product, customer and order carried across, and every ranking URL redirected before launch.
Certified, not badge-only Visualsoft builds on Shopify too. The real question is who owns the store.
Read the honest comparisonAnyone can move a product list. What decides whether leaving was worth it is whether the store you land on is yours, whether the URLs that earned your rankings still resolve, and whether everything the bundle quietly did still has someone doing it.

How we migrate a Visualsoft store to Shopify
Visualsoft keeps trading while the new store is built and tested beside it. The contract, the crawl and the redirect map come before anything moves, and nothing switches until they pass.
-
Audit, Crawl and Contract
We map the current Visualsoft store in full: the catalogue, the content, every indexed URL, and what the contract says about notice and data. The crawl is the part most migrations skip, and it is the part that protects your rankings.
-
Migration Plan and Redirect Map
A written plan with the data mapping, the rebuild brief and the full redirect map, signed off before anything moves. Disagreements are cheap at this stage and expensive after launch.
-
Build and Migrate on Staging
Data migrated, the Shopify storefront rebuilt and redirects implemented, all on staging first. You click through the real store with your real catalogue before anyone commits to a date.
-
Launch and Monitor
Pre-launch QA across real devices, a go-live timed to the end of the Visualsoft contract, then monitoring of rankings, redirect hits and errors through the weeks that follow, with a named person to call.
Visualsoft migration
Why brands leave Visualsoft
Visualsoft sells the platform, the hosting, the build and the support as one monthly relationship. For a retailer who wants one supplier accountable for everything, that is a real strength, and a company that has run since 1998 with over a thousand UK retailers is not a risky bet. It becomes a constraint the day you want to change one part of it, because on a bundled model leaving the agency means leaving the platform too.
Visualsoft is also a Shopify Premier Partner, so the question is not really Visualsoft or Shopify. It is whether your platform and your agency should be the same company. A Visualsoft migration onto a Shopify store you own outright separates the two: the store stays yours whoever builds it, and changing agency later never touches the platform. We are a Visualsoft to Shopify agency with a declared bias, and that separation is the case for it, not a feature list.
This suits a Visualsoft retailer approaching the end of a contract who wants to own the store independently, or one whose next round of work needs a specialist or an app the bundle does not include. If one accountable supplier matters more to you than the freedom to switch, staying put is a legitimate answer, and we will say so.
- A store you own independently of whoever builds or supports it
- Zero data loss: products, customers, order history and content all transferred
- Every old Visualsoft URL redirected to its Shopify equivalent before launch
- The platform and the agency as two separate decisions, so changing one never touches the other

What a Visualsoft to Shopify migration includes
Not a feature grid. Three questions: how you leave without a gap, what happens to the store and the data, and how the store keeps what it has already earned.
Leaving cleanly
Exit Planning
On a bundled platform the data export, the domain and sometimes the email all sit with the supplier, so the first job is finding out what you hold and what you have to ask for. We work out the notice period, request the full export in writing early, and plan the switch around the contract rather than discovering it in week six.
Replacing What the Bundle Did
Some of what you get from Visualsoft is not the platform at all: it is hosting, support and marketing services sold alongside it. We list every one of those before launch and give each a named home on Shopify, whether that is us, an app, your own team or another specialist.
The store and the data
Storefront Rebuild
A proprietary theme does not carry across to Shopify, so this is a rebuild rather than a lift-and-shift. We design a Shopify storefront around your brand and your existing content, rather than approximating the old layout in a new system.
Catalogue, Customer and Order Migration
Products, variants, categories, customer accounts and order history are mapped onto Shopify's real data structure, tested on staging and checked record by record before anything goes live. Anywhere a product genuinely needs restructuring is flagged in writing before launch.
What you have already earned
SEO Preservation
Every indexed URL is crawled, mapped to its Shopify equivalent and given a 301 before launch, with a before-and-after crawl comparison so any loss is visible rather than discovered a month later. A store that has ranked for years has the most to lose on the day it moves.
Launch and the Weeks After
Managed go-live with the team on hand, then close monitoring of rankings, redirects and error logs through the period where migration problems actually surface. A migration is not finished on launch day, and pricing it as though it is helps nobody.
Decide
Before anything moves, the honest question is whether it should, and with whom. Most of the money in a migration is lost or saved here.
Leaving Visualsoft
Decide who holds the store before you decide who builds it
Visualsoft will build you a Shopify store if you ask, so this is not a choice between a good platform and a bad one. It is a choice between one supplier accountable for everything and a store you own with an agency you can change. Both are legitimate. Only one of them lets you replace the agency without replacing the platform.
Bessette moved their store to Shopify with us, and what followed was the work a separated model makes easy to buy on its own terms: conversion work, paid media and merchandising on the same store, each judged on what it returned. The platform they left is not on our record, so nothing here says it was Visualsoft.
Bundled or separated
What you are actually comparing
Not Visualsoft against Shopify: Visualsoft can put you on Shopify as well. The real choice is between two ways of buying a store, and a company that has served over a thousand UK retailers since 1998 is good evidence the left-hand column works for plenty of them.
| Question | Bundled, on the Visualsoft platform | Separated, on a Shopify you own |
|---|---|---|
| Who holds the store | One supplier holds the platform, the hosting and the build | You do, independently of whoever builds it |
| How you pay | One monthly fee, agreed after a discovery call | A published platform fee, plus an agency you choose |
| When something breaks | One contract, and nobody else to point at | Two suppliers, each answerable for its own half |
| Changing agency | Means changing platform as well | Does not touch the store |
| Apps and integrations | What one supplier builds and maintains | An ecosystem far larger than any single supplier can maintain |
| Hiring help | The supplier’s own team | The deepest pool of Shopify talent in the UK |
| Leaving again | A rebuild rather than a move | Your theme, your data and your content, exportable |
Migrate
The rebuild, the data and the redirects. Everything that decides whether the store you land on is better than the one you left.
Visualsoft to Shopify migration
A rebuild, and a storefront that is finally yours
A proprietary theme does not carry across to another platform, so nothing moves the layout. That sounds like bad news and is usually the opposite: you get a storefront designed around your brand and your content, on a theme you own, rather than an approximation of the old one.
The catalogue, the customers and the order history are mapped onto Shopify’s real data structure at the same time, tested on staging, and anywhere a product genuinely needs restructuring is flagged in writing before launch rather than found by a customer afterwards.

Rankings survive the move, or the move was not worth making
A retailer that has been on one platform for years has the most to lose on the day it moves, because every one of those years earned URLs that Google trusts. The redirect map is the single biggest factor in whether a migration protects that or quietly costs it.
Every indexed URL is crawled, mapped and given a 301 before launch, then compared crawl to crawl afterwards, so a page that went missing is found by us rather than by your traffic graph six weeks later. We test that on Powerlete, our own brand, built from launch, before we recommend it to anyone.
Before you commit
What usually goes wrong
Leaving a bundled platform fails in its own ways, because the supplier did more than host the shop. Each of these is cheap to prevent and expensive to find afterwards, which is why the audit comes first.
The contract is read last
On a bundled platform the notice period usually decides the launch date, not the build. Read it on day one and plan backwards from it, so the new store is ready before the old one stops trading rather than the other way round.
The export is requested in the final week
On a hosted platform the full export of products, customers and orders often has to come from the supplier. Ask for it early, in writing, and check it record by record, because a gap found in week one is an email and a gap found at launch is a delay.
The bundle’s other services vanish at cutover
Hosting, support and marketing arrived with the platform, so nobody wrote them down. List every one before launch and give each a named owner on Shopify, or the first you hear of a gap is a customer finding it.
The redirect map is built from the sitemap
A sitemap says what you want indexed, not what Google actually has. We crawl the live site and pull Search Console’s own list beside it, because the pages earning the most are often the ones nobody remembers building.
The domain and email are with the old supplier
When one company ran everything, it may also hold the domain registration, the DNS or the mailboxes. Find out who controls each before the switch is scheduled, not on the morning of it.
The password reset lands as a surprise
Passwords cannot move between platforms, for security reasons, so every customer is invited to set a new one. Timed and worded with you, it reads as part of the launch. Sent cold, it reads as a phishing email.
The problems that matter rarely appear on launch day. They appear when Google recrawls, when the first customer tries to log in, and when somebody goes looking for the support that used to come with the platform. So the same developers stay on it, watching redirect hits and errors daily at first and tracking rankings against the pre-launch crawl.
Support after launchHow we work with you
Audit first, decide after
A crawl, a catalogue mapping, a read of the contract terms that affect the move and a written rebuild brief, priced on its own. You end up with a plan and a redirect map you own, whoever eventually does the work.
Fixed feeFixed-scope migration
The plan signed off, then the storefront, the data, the content and the redirects to an agreed scope and a date set by the contract. The people who quoted it are the people on it.
ProjectMigration, then a retainer
The support that used to come bundled has to live somewhere. The same developers stay on for monitoring, the fixes that surface in the first weeks, and the next round of work, on a contract you can change.

What comes with it
Read before you decide
The brands behind the stores we build and run.
Partners
Tools we have already run on our own stores.
The apps around a Shopify store decide as much as the theme does, and choosing between thousands of them is most of the work. We are a Shopify Plus Partner and we integrate the tools that sit around the platform. Every one of them runs on our own two stores before it reaches a client, so the recommendation you get comes from having paid for the thing and lived with it. When a brand already runs a stack that works, we integrate with it rather than rebuilding it to suit us.
How we use themStraight answers
Visualsoft builds on Shopify too. Why move with somebody else?
You may not need to, and it is worth asking them. Visualsoft is a Shopify Premier Partner as well as running its own platform. What moving with an independent agency buys is separation: the store is yours, the agency is a contract you can change, and nobody holds the platform and the build together. If one supplier for everything suits you better, that is a legitimate preference.
What happens to our data when we leave Visualsoft?
Products, customers, order history and content all move across. On a hosted, bundled platform the export usually has to be requested from the supplier rather than taken yourself, so we ask for it in writing early and check it record by record on staging before anything goes live.
Will we lose our Google rankings in a Visualsoft migration?
Not if the redirects are handled properly. We crawl every indexed Visualsoft URL, map each one to its Shopify equivalent before launch, and verify them on the live domain afterwards, comparing crawl to crawl so anything that went missing is found by us rather than by your traffic.
Is this a redesign, or just a data migration?
Both, honestly. A proprietary theme does not carry across to another platform, so we design a proper Shopify storefront around your brand and content rather than approximating the old layout in a new system.
How does the Visualsoft contract affect the timing?
It usually sets the launch date. We read the notice period at the start and plan backwards from it, so the new store is built and tested on staging while Visualsoft keeps trading, and the switch happens once the redirects pass rather than on a date the contract forced.
Visualsoft ran our hosting, support and marketing too. What replaces that?
Before launch we list everything the bundle did, not just the platform, and give each item a named home: hosting is included in Shopify, and support, email, search and ads go to us, to an app, to your own team or to another specialist. Nothing gets dropped because it was never written down.
How much downtime does the migration cause?
None your customers will see. Visualsoft keeps trading while we build on a separate Shopify store, and the domain switches only once every old URL resolves.
Do you migrate US Visualsoft stores from the UK?
Yes. We run migrations for US brands out of London, and the time difference helps: work done here overnight lands before your team starts the day.
Is this the right thing to buy from us?
Worth a conversation
- The contract is coming up for renewal and you want the store in your own name
- You want to change agency without rebuilding the platform next time
- The next round of work needs a specialist or an app the bundle does not include
- You want to see the platform fee and the agency fee as two separate lines
Probably not this, yet
- One accountable supplier matters more to you than the freedom to switch
- The contract has years to run, so plan now and move later
- You want Shopify but are happy with Visualsoft as the agency: ask them first
