Shopify pricing in the UK
Published
Every figure here is Shopify's own published UK pricing, read on 6 August 2026. The subscription is the part everyone compares and the part that matters least. What decides your bill is the card rate, and what quietly wrecks it is a fee most people do not know they are paying.
What the plans cost
Four plans, in pounds, inclusive of nothing else. The yearly column is the per-month cost when you pay twelve months up front, which is what Shopify’s own pricing page shows by default. The monthly column is what you actually pay if you are paying monthly, and it is around a quarter higher.
| Plan | Monthly | Yearly | Online card rate | Third-party fee |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Basic | £25 | £19 | 2% + 25p | 2% |
| Grow | £65 | £49 | 1.7% + 25p | 1% |
| Advanced | £344 | £259 | 1.5% + 25p | 0.6% |
| Plus | from £1,800 | Negotiated | 1.3% + 25p | 0.2% |
Shopify’s published UK pricing, read 6 August 2026. Card rates are for UK-issued consumer cards taken online through Shopify Payments. American Express and international cards cost more: 3.1% + 25p on Basic, falling to 2.5% + 25p on Advanced. In person is cheaper, at 1.7% + 0p on Basic down to 1.5% + 0p on Advanced.
Which plan each one is really for
Basic
One person, or a brand still proving the product sells.
Grow
A small team, and the plan most trading UK stores should be on.
Advanced
Higher volume, live third-party shipping rates, regional pricing.
Plus
Complex or multi-market businesses, and checkout you control.
The fee that costs more than the plan
If you take payment through anything other than Shopify Payments, Shopify adds its own charge on top of whatever your provider is already taking. It is 2% on Basic, 1% on Grow, 0.6% on Advanced and 0.2% on Plus, and it applies to the order value.
On a store selling £20,000 a month on Basic, that is £400 a month, or £4,800 a year, on top of your gateway’s own fees and on top of the subscription. It buys you nothing. It is the most expensive avoidable line in UK Shopify pricing and it is the one we most often find running on stores that come to us from elsewhere.
There are legitimate reasons to run another gateway, usually a payment method Shopify Payments does not support in your market. If that is not your situation, this fee is simply a bill for a decision nobody revisited.
The revenue at which changing plan pays for itself
Moving up a plan costs more in subscription and less in processing, so there is a revenue figure where the two cancel out. You can work it out from the table above, and it is worth doing rather than taking anyone else’s word for it.
Basic to Grow costs £30 a month more on yearly billing and saves 0.3% on every order. Those meet at £10,000 a month in sales. Below that, Basic. Above it, Grow, and the gap widens quickly.
Grow to Advanced costs £210 a month more and saves a further 0.2%, so it pays from around £105,000 a month. That is a much higher bar than most people assume, and plenty of stores sit on Advanced paying for a card rate they are nowhere near earning back. If you are on Advanced for the shipping rates or the regional pricing, that is a real reason. If you moved for the percentage, check the arithmetic.
Advanced to Plus saves 0.2% for around £1,541 a month more, which does not break even until roughly £770,500 a month, or £9.2 million a year. So nobody should move to Plus for the card rate. Move for the things only Plus has, which we go through in Shopify vs Shopify Plus.
What Shopify’s pricing page leaves out
Apps. This is where store budgets actually go. Three or four subscriptions between £20 and £100 a month each is entirely normal, and they are billed in dollars on most accounts. It is common for the app bill to pass the plan within the first year and never come back under it.
POS Pro, at £69 a month per location, if you also sell in a physical shop. Casual in-person selling is included; the retail features are not. Shopify retail fees at that tier are POS Pro’s own monthly charge, separate from your online Shopify website cost entirely. We cover what that involves on Shopify POS.
The theme, once, in the low hundreds if you buy one rather than using a free Shopify theme.
Design and build. Not a Shopify cost, and usually the biggest number in year one. It is also the only one on this list where what you spend changes what you earn, which is why we would rather see a brand on Grow with a fast, well-built store than on Advanced with a slow one.
What we would actually do
Start on Basic, monthly, during the trial and the first trading months, because the plan you need becomes obvious the moment you have real order volume instead of a forecast. Use Shopify Payments unless you have a specific reason not to. Move to Grow once you are past £10,000 a month. Review the app bill every quarter, because it grows by accumulation and nobody ever cancels anything.
Then stop optimising the subscription. The difference between Basic and Grow is £30 a month. A checkout that converts a percentage point better is worth more than that on the first day, every day, and that is the work we do.
Questions we get asked
How much does Shopify cost in the UK?
Plans run from £25 a month for Basic to £344 for Advanced, or £19 to £259 if you pay for a year up front. Plus starts at £1,800 a month. Those are the subscription figures only: on a trading store the card processing almost always costs more than the plan does, so the honest answer to what Shopify costs is the subscription plus roughly 1.5% to 2% of everything you sell. Shopify fees UK merchants actually pay, and the Shopify UK fees that catch people out, are the card rate and the third-party transaction charge below, not the plan price above it. Shopify rates UK-wide follow the same table, and Shopify charges UK card issuers cannot avoid unless you switch to Shopify Payments.
What's the honest answer to how much does Shopify cost UK-wide?
It depends which number you mean. Shopify UK pricing starts at the plan fee in the table above, but the real Shopify costs UK stores actually pay include the card rate on every order, which usually outweighs the subscription within a few months of trading. If you want the single Shopify price UK stores should budget for, treat the plan as the smallest line on the bill, not the total.
Is there a Shopify plus cost breakdown, or a monthly cost for every plan?
Both live in the table above. Shopify monthly cost runs from Basic to Advanced, then Shopify plus cost sits well above that, quoted separately because Plus pricing is negotiated rather than fixed. If you want the shopify cost per month broken down by card rate as well as subscription, that is exactly what the crossover section below works out.
How much is Shopify UK, all in, and are the Shopify plans UK stores actually need different from the US ones?
Shopify prices UK and US are set separately by Shopify and are not simple currency conversions of each other, so use this page's figures rather than a US comparison. Shopify pricing plans and Shopify price plans mean the same four tiers either way. Shopify plus pricing UK is negotiated per account rather than published, which is the one figure on this page we cannot give you exactly.
Is there a free trial?
Shopify offers three days free and then £1 a month for the following three months. That is enough to build and test a store, and it is worth using the whole of it before committing, because the plan you need is obvious once you can see your own order volume rather than guessing at it.
Is it cheaper to pay yearly?
Yes, by roughly a quarter on every plan: Basic drops from £25 to £19, Grow from £65 to £49, Advanced from £344 to £259. It is a genuine saving rather than a trick, but it is twelve months of commitment on a platform you may still be evaluating. Pay monthly until the store is trading, then switch.
What is the third-party transaction fee?
If you take payments through anything other than Shopify Payments, Shopify charges a further fee on top of whatever your own provider charges: 2% on Basic, 1% on Grow, 0.6% on Advanced and 0.2% on Plus. It is the single most expensive mistake in this list. On a store turning over £20,000 a month on Basic it is £400 a month, for nothing you can see.
How much is Shopify Plus?
The Shopify plus monthly cost starts at £1,800. The card rate improves to 1.3% + 25p, but that saving alone does not justify the price until revenue is very large indeed, so nobody should move to Plus to save on processing. What you are buying is checkout you can genuinely customise, unlimited staff, 200 inventory locations, unlimited B2B catalogs and the higher API limits, and those are either worth it to you or they are not.
What else costs money that Shopify does not list?
A domain, if you buy one. Apps, which is where budgets actually go: three or four subscriptions at £20 to £100 a month each is normal and adds up faster than the plan. A paid theme is a one-off in the low hundreds. POS Pro is £69 a month per physical location. Design and development are separate again, and are the largest number in the first year for most brands.
What are the Shopify payments fees, on top of the plan?
The online card rate in the plan table above is what Shopify Payments actually costs: 2% down to 1.5%, taken from every order automatically. Choose a different gateway instead and Shopify transaction fees apply on top of whatever that provider already charges, the same 2% to 0.2% figures from the trap section above. Whichever route you take, work out how much for Shopify all in by adding the subscription and the card rate together, never one on its own.
