Ecommerce AI SEO
Cited by ChatGPT and Perplexity.
(opens in a new tab) A growing share of buying research happens inside an assistant that never sends a click. Being the source it quotes is a different job from ranking blue links, and it starts in the store: what the crawlers can reach, what the markup says, and whether a page answers a question in a sentence worth quoting.

Certified, not badge-only An AI SEO agency for stores that want to be the answer, across the UK and the US.
Read the case studiesWe run search for the stores we build and for our own two brands. Being cited by an assistant is that same foundation carried further, so the work lands in the theme, the schema and the product data rather than in a separate report.
Our servicesThe case for it
Why assistants cite some stores and never mention others
An assistant answering a buying question does not rank ten links. It fetches a handful of pages, reads the parts it can parse, and quotes whichever passage answers the question most plainly, often without sending the buyer anywhere.
Stores get left out for reasons that are mostly mechanical. The crawler was blocked by a robots.txt nobody decided on, the product markup did not validate, or the answer was buried in a paragraph that only made sense in context. Each of those can be fixed, and none of them is fixed by publishing more.
How we run it
How we get a store cited by ChatGPT and Perplexity
The same four steps, run against a target that moves. What an assistant cites this quarter is not what it cited last, so the audit gets repeated rather than filed, and we tell you which findings are stable and which are a snapshot.
-
Access and markup audit
What the AI crawlers can reach, and whether the structured data on the pages they reach is valid.
-
Fix the foundations
robots.txt decisions, schema corrections and the technical work that makes a page quotable.
-
Write for citation
Passage-level content against the questions buyers ask in an assistant rather than in a search box.
-
Monitor
Citation tracking, reviewed monthly, with the content gaps it exposes fed back in.

Before an assistant can quote a store it has to be allowed in, and it has to be able to make sense of what it finds.
Ecommerce AI SEO
Markup an assistant can resolve, checked rather than assumed
An assistant summarising a product page leans on its structured data far more than a search engine does. Product, organisation, FAQ and breadcrumb markup has to validate, and it has to say the same thing as the page it sits on.
Most Shopify themes ship some of it and get some of it wrong. We test it on live pages, fix it in the theme rather than patching over it with an app, and check it again after every release. This is Google's Rich Results Test on one of our own product pages.

Written in passages that can be quoted whole
Assistants quote passages, not pages. A buyer asks how a size runs or whether something survives a hot wash, and the answer gets lifted from whichever page states it plainly in a sentence or two.
So we write product copy, collection pages, guides and FAQs that answer the questions buyers put to an assistant, each answer complete on its own and still true out of context. The same passages serve the buyer who never asks an assistant at all.
Scope
What ecommerce AI SEO actually involves
Six pieces of work, each one checkable on a live page.
What the crawlers can reach
Crawler access
GPTBot, PerplexityBot, ClaudeBot and the rest are either allowed or they are not, and most robots.txt files have never had the decision made. We make it deliberately.
Structured data
Product, organisation, FAQ and breadcrumb markup that validates and resolves, because an assistant summarising your page relies on it far more than a search engine does.
What an assistant can quote
Passage-level writing
Assistants quote passages, not pages. Content structured so a self-contained answer exists for the questions buyers actually ask.
Product data it can trust
Titles, attributes, prices and availability that agree between the page, the markup and the feed, so the product an assistant names is one a buyer can buy.
What you can see
Measurement
Tracking whether you are cited, for what, and against whom. Without it this is a channel run on faith.
Findings, dated
What an assistant cites this quarter is not what it cited last. Every audit says which findings are stable and which are a snapshot.
The honest comparison
AI SEO or traditional SEO, and where they differ
Most of AI SEO is SEO done properly. This is the part that is not.
| Question | Traditional SEO | AI SEO |
|---|---|---|
| Where you appear | A position in a list of links | A sentence inside the answer, with or without a link |
| Who fetches the page | Googlebot and Bingbot | Those, plus GPTBot, PerplexityBot, ClaudeBot and the rest |
| The unit of work | The page | The passage, and the data behind it |
| What it reads hardest | Relevance, and who links to the page | Structured data and product data it can check |
| How it is measured | Rankings, clicks and Search Console | Citations on a fixed prompt set, and assistant referrals |
A store needs both, run together. If the technical SEO is broken, fix that first: an assistant reads the same site Google does.

Being readable makes a store eligible. Being the source that gets cited takes product data it can trust and a way of knowing whether it worked.
AI ecommerce SEO agency
The catalogue an assistant reads, kept consistent
An assistant recommending a product needs to be sure it exists, what it costs and whether it is in stock. It checks the page, the markup and increasingly the product feed, and when those disagree it names something else.
We keep titles, attributes, prices and availability the same across all three, from the Shopify admin outwards. That is also the ground AI shopping agents rely on, so the work carries forward rather than being redone.

Citations tracked, not taken on faith
Whether an assistant cites you is measurable, if not yet precisely. We fix a set of prompts your buyers actually ask, check which sources each assistant cites for them every month, and track the referral traffic that assistants do send.
The gaps that tracking exposes become the next month’s work. That keeps the programme pointed at questions with buyers behind them, rather than at whatever is easiest to publish.
Our stack
The stack we run AI search on
AI search is young enough that most of the tooling is unproven, so we buy it for our own stores first and find out. What survives that is what we put a client on.
- Open most weeks
- Pulled in when a question needs it
Buying it
How we work with you
We scope AI SEO services by the question rather than by the page: what the assistants say when your buyers ask about your category today, and what would have to change for them to quote you.
AI search audit
A fixed piece of work: what the AI crawlers can reach, whether the markup on those pages validates, and which of your buyers’ questions you are cited for today. The findings are yours whether or not we do the rest.
Monthly AI SEO
The fixes, the passage-level writing and the citation tracking, reviewed each month against a prompt set agreed at the start. What counts as progress does not move once it is agreed.
Alongside your SEO
Run inside a Shopify SEO retainer rather than as a second one. The foundations are the same work, and paying for them twice makes no sense.

From start to finish, they were incredibly easy to work with. They understood the brief perfectly and delivered to a very high standard. Communication was excellent throughout, with quick and clear responses to any questions I had.

Same job, different words
What different people call this job
AI SEO is young enough that nobody agrees on its name. Search it however you like and you should still land here.
Search a seo ai agency or an ai seo agency, word order swapped, and land on the same page here. What matters is not which order the words came in, it is whether the agency treats AI citation as a bolt-on to traditional SEO or as its own discipline with its own technical requirements: entity clarity, structured data an assistant can parse, and content written to be quoted rather than skimmed.
An ai ecommerce seo agency, an ai seo agency ecommerce and an ecommerce ai seo agency are the same three words in a different order, and the same agency under all three. It is one of our ai seo services, not a separate offering with its own price list.
The rest of the vocabulary lands here too. An ai seo service, an ai seo expert, an ai search optimisation agency and an ai seo agency uk brands can actually reach are all the same request underneath: make the thing quotable by an assistant as well as rankable by a crawler. We do it as ai seo services on stores we already run search for, which is why the answer to "does this work" is our own traffic rather than a case study we cannot name.
Some of the searches that land here are about place or format rather than the work. Ai seo agency london is asking whether a team is in the same city, and ours is. Ai seo agency services and ai seo digital agency are asking whether this is a whole service or a single tactic, and it is a service: measured citations, the pages that earn them, and the structured data underneath. An ai search optimisation agency is the same job named for what the searcher sees rather than what the engine does, which is why we run it as one programme rather than two.
Is this the right thing to buy from us?
Worth a conversation
- Assistants answer questions in your category and never mention you
- Nobody has looked at your robots.txt since AI crawlers appeared
- Your product markup has never been validated on a live page
- Your buyers research at length before they buy
Probably not this, yet
- The store has technical SEO problems that come first
- Nobody searches for your category yet
- You want a guaranteed citation by a date

Tools we have already run on our own stores
The apps around a Shopify store decide as much as the theme does, and choosing between thousands of them is most of the work. We are a Shopify Plus Partner and we integrate the tools that sit around the platform. Every one of them runs on our own two stores before it reaches a client, so the recommendation you get comes from having paid for the thing and lived with it. When a brand already runs a stack that works, we integrate with it rather than rebuilding it to suit us.
How we use themQuestions
Straight answers
How is this different from a general ai search agency?
A general ai search agency treats AI citation as one channel alongside social and display. We build it on the same technical foundation as the store itself: product feeds, structured data and the catalogue an assistant actually reads from, because a citation that cannot be traced back to a real, buyable product is not worth much to an ecommerce brand.
Is an ai optimisation agency the same as an AI SEO agency?
Usually, and the naming tells you more about the supplier than the service: ai optimisation services, an ai seo optimisation agency and the shorter seo aio agency, AIO being AI optimisation, all describe getting a brand found and quoted by assistants rather than only ranked on a results page. The question that separates suppliers is not which acronym they picked. It is whether the work reaches the catalogue and the structured data underneath, or stops at published content.
Can AI SEO get a Shopify store cited by ChatGPT?
It can make the store eligible, which is most of the battle. ChatGPT, Perplexity and Google’s AI Overviews can only cite pages they are able to fetch and make sense of, so the first job is crawler access, valid structured data and answers written plainly enough to quote. Nobody can promise a citation for a given question by a given date, and an agency that does is guessing.
Should we let AI crawlers onto the store?
Usually yes, but it should be a decision rather than an accident. Some crawlers collect training data and some fetch pages to answer a live question, and a store can treat the two differently. Shopify lets you edit robots.txt through the theme, so the choice can be made per crawler and written down.
How do you measure AI SEO?
Against a fixed set of prompts your buyers actually ask, checked every month for which sources each assistant cites, alongside the referral traffic assistants send, which shows up in GA4 like any other referrer. It is less precise than a ranking report and we say so at the start.
Is AI SEO the same as GEO?
They overlap, and we run them as two services. AI SEO, this page, is about being cited: crawler access, structured data and passages an assistant can quote. Generative engine optimisation is about being the brand an assistant recommends, which leans on entity signals, comparison content and what other sources say about you.
How long does it take to show?
The technical fixes count as soon as the crawlers next fetch the page. Citations take longer and move less predictably, because they depend on what else has been published on the same question. We agree what counts as progress before we start, rather than choosing a measure afterwards that flatters the work.
Is AI SEO worth it for a smaller store?
Only once the basics are sound. If the store has technical SEO problems, those come first, because an assistant reads the same site Google does. If your buyers research before they buy and ask an assistant to help them compare, it is worth doing early, while fewer of your competitors have.
