Build & Migrate
Magento to Shopify Migration
Complex catalogues, migrated properly.
(opens in a new tab) Magento migrations carry the most to lose: complex attribute structures, custom modules and years of extensions with no direct Shopify equivalent. We map each one to a native answer, rebuild what genuinely has to be rebuilt, and retire the rest, so the store keeps trading and the catalogue survives the move intact.
Certified, not badge-only A Magento migration is a mapping problem wearing a data problem’s clothes.
How a migration actually runsAnyone can export products. What decides whether the store works afterwards is what you do with the attribute sets, the extensions nobody has looked at in four years, and the URLs that earned your rankings.

How we migrate a Magento catalogue to Shopify
The crawl and the mapping happen before anything moves. That ordering is the whole difference between a migration that protects what the store earned and one that finds the damage afterwards.
-
Audit and Crawl
We map the current Magento install in full: the attribute sets, every extension and custom module, and every indexed URL. The crawl is the part most Magento migrations skip, and it is the part that protects your rankings.
-
Migration Plan and Redirect Map
A written plan with the catalogue mapping, the extension-to-Shopify mapping and the full redirect map, signed off before anything moves. Disagreements are cheap at this stage and expensive after launch.
-
Build and Migrate on Staging
Data migrated, the Shopify store built, integrations connected and redirects implemented, all on staging first. You click through the real store with your real catalogue before anyone commits to a date.
-
Launch and Monitor
Pre-launch QA across real devices, managed go-live, then monitoring of rankings, redirect hits and errors through the weeks that follow, with a named person to call.
Migrate Magento to Shopify
Why brands trust us with a Magento migration
A Magento migration carries the most to lose: complex attribute sets, custom modules and years of extensions with no direct Shopify equivalent. Skip the mapping stage and functionality goes missing quietly, usually discovered by a customer rather than by you.
We map every attribute structure and extension to its closest native Shopify answer before anything moves, and rebuild what is genuinely bespoke rather than porting complexity you were only maintaining. We move UK and US brands off Magento, including B2B catalogues with company accounts and tiered pricing.
Migrating suits a Magento store paying for hosting, development time and licensing that Shopify replaces as standard, or one running into the platform's own complexity on every change. If the catalogue is simple and the store is converting well, the migration effort may cost more than it returns.
- Complex catalogues and custom attribute sets mapped to Shopify's data model without losing structure
- Zero data loss: products, customers, order history and content all transferred
- Every old URL mapped and redirected, so the rankings a Magento store has usually earned over years survive
- The current store keeps trading throughout, with no maintenance-mode window
Magento features
What a Magento to Shopify migration includes
Not a feature grid. Three questions: what the catalogue becomes, what gets rebuilt or replaced, and how the store keeps what it has already earned.
The catalogue
Attribute and Catalogue Structure
Magento's EAV data model lets a catalogue carry attribute sets and configurable products that have no one-to-one Shopify equivalent. We map each structure to its closest native answer, usually variants and metafields, and flag anywhere the mapping genuinely changes how the catalogue behaves before it happens rather than after.
B2B and Wholesale Catalogues
Where a Magento store runs company accounts, custom price lists or tiered pricing, we move that onto Shopify's native B2B on Plus rather than bolting on an app stack to replicate what Magento did out of the box.
What gets rebuilt or replaced
Extension and Custom Module Audit
A mature Magento store often carries a long tail of extensions and custom modules built up over years. We audit what each one does, replace it with a native Shopify feature or app where one exists, and rebuild what is genuinely bespoke, rather than porting complexity you were only ever maintaining.
Integrations and Custom Functionality
ERP, PIM, fulfilment and payment integrations reconnected and tested against real orders before go-live. Where bespoke Magento functionality is genuinely load-bearing, our developers rebuild it natively. Where a native Shopify feature now does the job better, we say so instead of billing to recreate it.
What you have already earned
SEO Preservation
Magento URL structures rarely match Shopify's forced /products/ and /collections/ paths, so the redirect map is the single biggest factor in whether a migration protects or costs you rankings. Every indexed URL is crawled, mapped and given a 301 before launch, with a before-and-after crawl comparison so nothing is lost quietly.
Launch and the Weeks After
Managed go-live with the team on hand, then close monitoring of rankings, redirects and error logs through the period where migration problems actually surface. A migration is not finished on launch day, and pricing it as though it is helps nobody.
Decide
Before anything moves, the honest question is whether it should. Most of the money in a migration is lost or saved here.
Magento 2 upgrade
The decision comes before the migration
If you are weighing a major Magento version jump against a replatform, the two usually get priced as though only one of them is a rebuild. Both are.
So we cost them side by side against your catalogue rather than a generic one. If staying is the better commercial call for the next two years, we will say so, and you will have the numbers either way.
Magento community vs enterprise
What you are actually comparing
Open Source and Adobe Commerce differ on licence and hosting. Against Shopify Plus, which carries company accounts, per-buyer price lists and multi-region selling, both differ on the same seven lines, and the licence is rarely the one that decides it. What decides it is what your team spends in developer time to make a routine change.
| Capability | Magento and Adobe Commerce | Shopify and Shopify Plus |
|---|---|---|
| Licence | Free on Open Source; a licence fee on Adobe Commerce | A monthly platform fee, plus payment processing |
| Hosting and security | Yours to buy, size, monitor and patch | Included, and not your problem |
| Upgrades | A project; a major version jump is priced like a rebuild | Continuous, and not your project |
| Catalogue model | Attribute sets, deep and genuinely flexible | Variants and metafields: a real mapping job for some catalogues |
| Checkout | Yours to build and yours to maintain | Built in, and extendable on Plus |
| B2B | Native | Native on Plus: company accounts, price lists, payment terms |
| A routine change | Developer time, most of the time | Usually your own team, in the admin |
Migrate
The mapping, the rebuild and the redirects. Everything that decides whether the store you land on is better than the one you left.
Migrate from Magento to Shopify
The catalogue is the hard part, so it goes first
Magento lets a catalogue carry attribute sets and configurable products with no one-to-one Shopify equivalent. Mapping them onto variants and metafields is a design decision, not an export, and it sets what your merchandising can do for years afterwards.
We map every structure before anything moves, and flag in writing anywhere the mapping genuinely changes how the catalogue behaves, while it is still cheap to argue about.
Migration from Magento to Shopify Plus
Rankings survive the move, or the move was not worth making
Magento URL structures rarely match Shopify’s fixed product and collection paths, so the redirect map is the single biggest factor in whether a migration protects your rankings or quietly costs them. A store that has ranked for years has the most to lose on the day it moves.
Every indexed URL is crawled, mapped and given a 301 before launch, then compared crawl to crawl afterwards, so a page that went missing is found by us rather than by your traffic graph six weeks later.
Before you commit
What usually goes wrong
Six failures account for most of the damage a migration does, and none of them is exotic. Each one is cheap to prevent and expensive to find afterwards, which is why the audit comes first.
The redirect map is built from the sitemap
A sitemap says what you want indexed, not what Google actually has. We crawl the live store and pull Search Console’s own list beside it, because the pages earning the most are often the ones nobody remembers building.
The password reset lands as a surprise
Passwords cannot move between platforms, for security reasons, so every customer is invited to set a new one. Timed and worded with you, it reads as part of the launch. Sent cold, it reads as a phishing email.
Attribute sprawl travels with you
Years of attribute sets usually carry duplicates and dead fields. Migrating them intact is the fastest route, and it hands the new store the old problem.
The integrations have no owner
The connector that has run untouched for six years tends to have no documentation and nobody named against it. That is a thing to find during the audit, not during cutover.
The staging store gets indexed
A staging build left crawlable competes with the store it is replacing, and occasionally beats it. Password it on day one and check the index before launch.
Magento is switched off too early
It usually holds the only copy of something nobody thought to export. Keep it readable for a while after cutover, even though paying for it feels like a cost you have just escaped.
The problems that matter rarely appear on launch day. They appear when Google recrawls, when the first month-end report runs against imported order history, and when a customer spends a loyalty balance that moved across in a different shape. So the same developers stay on it, watching redirect hits and errors daily at first and tracking rankings against the pre-launch crawl.
Support after launchHow we work with you
Audit first, decide after
A crawl, an extension inventory and a catalogue mapping, priced on its own. You end up with a written migration plan and a redirect map you own, whoever eventually does the work.
Fixed feeFixed-scope migration
The plan signed off, then the build, the data, the integrations and the redirects to an agreed scope and date. The people who quoted it are the people on it.
ProjectMigration, then a retainer
Launch is where a migration starts being judged. The same developers stay on for monitoring, the fixes that surface in the first weeks, and the next round of work.

What comes with it
Read before you decide
The brands behind the stores we build and run.
Partners
Tools we have already run on our own stores.
The apps around a Shopify store decide as much as the theme does, and choosing between thousands of them is most of the work. We are a Shopify Plus Partner and we integrate the tools that sit around the platform. Every one of them runs on our own two stores before it reaches a client, so the recommendation you get comes from having paid for the thing and lived with it. When a brand already runs a stack that works, we integrate with it rather than rebuilding it to suit us.
How we use themStraight answers
Will we lose our Google rankings when we migrate from Magento?
Not if the redirects are handled properly. Magento URL structures rarely match Shopify's, so we map every indexed URL to its new equivalent before launch and verify them on the live domain afterwards.
Can you migrate a complex Magento catalogue with custom attributes?
Yes, that is most of what a Magento migration is, and the core of our Magento to Shopify migration service. We map attribute sets and configurable products to Shopify's variant and metafield structure, and flag anywhere the mapping genuinely changes catalogue behaviour before it happens.
What happens to our Magento extensions and custom modules?
Each one is audited individually. Where a Shopify app or native feature already does the job, we move to it. Where the functionality is genuinely bespoke, our developers rebuild it natively.
Can you migrate a Magento B2B catalogue?
Yes. On a Magento to Shopify Plus migration, company accounts, custom price lists and tiered pricing move onto Shopify's native B2B, rather than an app stack trying to replicate what Magento did natively.
How much downtime does the migration cause?
None your customers will see. Magento keeps taking orders while we build alongside it, and the final orders and stock are reconciled at cutover rather than freezing the store.
Do you migrate US Magento stores from the UK?
Yes. We run migrations for US brands out of London, and the time difference helps: work done here overnight lands before your team starts the day.
Should we take the Magento 2 upgrade or move off it?
It depends what the upgrade is actually buying you. If you are on Magento 2 and current, an upgrade is maintenance, and a Magento 2 to Shopify migration is a decision you can take slowly. If you are facing a major version jump, you are being asked to pay for a rebuild either way, and that is the moment to price both properly rather than defaulting to the one that feels smaller.
What is Magento, and what is the difference between Open Source and Adobe Commerce?
Magento is an open-source ecommerce platform now owned by Adobe, and the magento community vs enterprise question is really about which of two editions you run. Open Source is free to licence and you pay for hosting, development and everything that keeps it upright. Adobe Commerce adds a licence fee and hosted infrastructure with features most mid-market merchants use a fraction of. The licence is rarely the expensive part. The developer time around it usually is, and that is the same on both.
What does Magento cost to run compared with Shopify?
The magento features list is not where the cost sits, so comparing them line by line will mislead you. It depends how much you change the store. Magento has no platform fee and a real hosting, security and developer bill; Shopify has a platform fee and transaction costs and absorbs the rest. Stores that change rarely can run Magento cheaply. Stores that ship changes weekly usually find the developer time is the whole difference.
Can you keep our Magento store running while we decide?
No, and it is worth being straight about it: we do not sell Magento development or support. We migrate stores off it. If you need somebody to keep Magento upright, you want a Magento specialist, and we would rather say so than take the work and learn on your store.
What if we are still deciding between staying on Magento and moving?
That is exactly what this page is for. Migration from Magento to Shopify Plus, adobe commerce vs Shopify Plus, migration from Magento to Shopify and migrate from Magento to Shopify Plus all describe the comparison stage, not just the move itself; we will tell you honestly if staying is the better call for your catalogue.
Is this the right thing to buy from us?
Worth a conversation
- A major Magento version jump is being quoted at you
- Hosting, patching and developer time cost more than the store returns
- The catalogue is complex and the merchandising is fighting it
- Routine changes need a developer every time
Probably not this, yet
- The catalogue is simple and the store converts well
- Magento is stable, maintained and not in your way
- You want a redesign rather than a replatform
- You need someone to keep Magento running, which we do not sell
