Smartap

A custom Shopify theme, built up from vanilla Horizon and live from 15 October 2026.

A custom Horizon theme, a quote quiz that prices small orders on the spot, and search and paid set up around one purchase signal.

Not published. This is a client store, and its numbers are the client’s to release, not ours.

The brief

Where it started

Smartap sells NFC review cards, stands, plaques and keychains. A customer taps one with their phone and the business’s review page opens, on Google, Trustpilot, Tripadvisor or WhatsApp. There is no app to download and no subscription.

The buyers range from a café owner who wants one card to a hotel group that wants a stand on every reception desk, and the store has to sell to both of them.

When we started in September 2026 the store ran on Shopify’s Rise theme with third-party section code added on top. It traded, but every change meant working round code nobody on the team owned, and the homepage showed a rating and a row of stars with no source behind either.

The work

What we did

Support first. We took over the live Rise theme on 19 September, put it under version control, fixed what was broken and kept it trading while the new build went on alongside it.

Then a custom theme, started on 25 September from vanilla Horizon, Shopify’s own theme. Everything we wrote lives in files we own, so Shopify’s later Horizon releases can still be merged in and the store is not frozen on one version.

A homepage designed with the client, then the rest of the store built to match it: one type and icon system, a buy box that prices every pack size up front, a side cart and cart page with add-ons, and a free Google review link finder and QR code maker.

Eight markets with prices in local currency, and a Spanish version of the store.

Search and paid set up together. Every page and collection title is owned by one keyword in a map the build checks. In Google Ads, a brand campaign went live, and a purchase action that had been counting page loads as sales was removed, so bidding learns from real orders.

The detail

One store, two kinds of buyer

Someone buying a single card wants a price and a checkout. A franchise wants a quote, its logo on the product and a rollout across sites. A store built for one of them leaves the other filling in a contact form.

Here a short quiz asks who the order is for and how many, then routes it. A small order in a standard design gets a price on the last screen. A larger or custom order becomes a brief, sent to the team by email and saved to the customer’s Klaviyo profile, with what the team needs to quote.
