Web design & search · Insurance & brokers

Insurance marketing that gets the quote request in, not the compare-site click.

A generic insurance search is dominated by comparison sites, so a broker’s own marketing has to win on what a comparison site cannot offer: specialist cover, a real relationship, and a quote that does not feel like a fifteen-question form.

01 Why insurance brokers work with us

The quote form is where most brokers lose the visitor

A long, generic form reads the same as a comparison site’s, so it wins on nothing. We build the quote path around what actually differentiates a broker: fewer, better questions, and a human on the other end for anything genuinely complicated.

We already build for a regulated broker

Meta Mortgages is a mortgage brokerage whose site we built and whose strategy we still advise on. Regulated, enquiry-led, nothing sold online, and every promotion needing sign-off before it runs. That is the shape of your problem rather than an approximation of it. Founder-led, 100+ builds across the UK and the US.

See that work

Renewal is where the real relationship lives

Most insurance marketing is aimed entirely at new business, when a broker’s real edge is usually the renewal: a client who trusts you enough not to shop around. We build the site to support that relationship, not just the first quote.

02 How a broker wins the business a comparison site cannot quote

A comparison site owns the simple risks and always will, and fighting it there is a losing auction. Nothing here is a lead you buy from us. It is a machine you own: pages built for the cover an aggregator cannot price, search aimed at the awkward risk, and an enquiry that reaches a person before it reaches a panel.

  1. The site earns its keep on the risks a panel cannot rate

Standard motor and home have gone and chasing them back is a losing auction. The value is in risks that need a human: a listed building, a trade with a claims history, a fleet, an unusual exposure. Those want their own pages, written in the words the customer would use.

  2. The advice is the product, so the site has to sound like advice

Somebody with a complicated risk is not shopping for a price, they are looking for a broker who has seen their situation before. Explaining what usually goes wrong on that class of cover does more than any promise of competitive premiums.

  3. Search reaches the awkward risk at the moment it becomes a problem

These searches are specific and low volume, and that is the point. A handful of the right terms, a cover type plus a trade or a property type, reach somebody who has just been declined elsewhere. Low volume and high value is the shape of this entire channel.

  4. Ads belong on your specialisms and the renewal season

Bidding against aggregators on generic cover burns budget on clicks that were always going to compare. Paid aimed at the classes you actually write, timed to the renewal cycle of those trades, spends where a broker can win.

  5. Qualification makes the first call an underwriting conversation

Cover type, the trade or property, sums insured, claims history and renewal date, asked at the enquiry, means the first call is about placing the risk rather than gathering the basics. That is the difference between a busy broker and a productive one.

03 The work

One live regulated brokerage, and the exact scope we did on it. We built the site and stay on as their consultancy partner. A mortgage broker rather than an insurer, so we say so.

Insurance marketing questions, answered

What experience do you have with insurance brokers?

The work a broker needs is the work we do: a site whose job is the enquiry rather than a checkout, ads that have to pay for themselves, and search that keeps the right work coming in. Meta Mortgages is one of ours, a regulated brokerage whose site we built and still advise on, which is the same enquiry-led job with the same compliance sitting on top of it. Behind it sit 100+ builds across the UK and the US, founder-led, and two brands we run ourselves. Tell us how your quote requests arrive today and we will show you where the site, the ads and the search move first.

Do you only build Shopify sites?

No. Shopify is where most of our work sits because most of our clients sell products online, and an insurance broker usually does not sell that way. We build on whatever fits the job. This site runs on Astro and Cloudflare, and the surfacing contractor runs on WordPress.

Can you handle FCA-regulated content and disclosures?

We build the site to hold the disclosures and regulatory wording clearly; what gets said and how it is worded is your compliance team’s call, not ours to draft. We are not FCA-regulated advisers ourselves.

Do you integrate with a quote engine or comparison feed?

Usually, yes. Most quote engines and rating platforms offer an embed or an API, and we would connect to the one you already use rather than build a second system. What is possible depends on the provider, which is the first thing we would ask.

How do we compete with comparison sites on search?

Mostly, you do not try to outrank them on generic terms. We would look at where a broker genuinely wins, specialist cover, local reputation, renewal retention, and build the search strategy around those rather than a term a comparison site already owns. Insurance seo for a broker is therefore a narrower and more winnable job than the phrase suggests, because the terms worth having are the ones the aggregators do not bother with.

Do you do insurance website design as well as the marketing?

Yes, and for brokers the two are rarely separable. Insurance web design has one hard job, turning a visitor into a quote request without the twelve-field form that sends them back to a comparison site, and no amount of insurance marketing services fixes a quote path that asks for a date of birth before it has explained the cover.

Can we run paid advertising under the financial promotion rules?

Yes, and every piece of it is a financial promotion, which changes the process rather than ruling it out. Ad copy, landing pages and lead forms all need approval and a record of it, and the platforms apply their own financial services verification on top. We build the approval step into the workflow so nothing goes live unsigned, which is slower and considerably cheaper than the alternative.

Should we build a page for each scheme or niche we write?

Yes, and it is the most effective thing a broker can do online. Nobody searches insurance broker; they search cover for their trade, their vehicle, their property or their liability, and a specific page for a specific scheme meets that search where a general site cannot. It is also how you avoid competing with the comparison sites on their own terms.

Can clients start a quote or upload documents on the site?

Yes, and for commercial lines it is worth more than a quote engine. A structured questionnaire that captures the risk properly and takes a schedule or a claims history as an attachment gives your account executive something to work with, rather than a name and a phone number. Handling those documents securely is part of the build, not an afterthought.

How do we get renewals and cross-sales from the site, not just new business?

By treating existing clients as an audience rather than a database. A logged-in area for documents, renewal reminders that arrive before the aggregator adverts start, and content aimed at the cover they do not yet hold all do more for the account than another new business campaign. Retention is cheaper than acquisition in every line you write, and almost no broker site is built for it.

Is insurance broker marketing different to marketing an insurer?

Completely. An insurer competes on price and brand at national scale. Marketing for insurance brokers is about the cover an aggregator will not quote, the renewal conversation and the fact that a person picks up the phone. Those are different pages and a different budget shape.
