SEO Migrations
Replatform without losing rankings.
(opens in a new tab) An SEO migration agency with 100+ Shopify builds behind it. Every URL that ranks is inventoried, mapped one to one and tested before launch, then watched daily through the weeks where problems actually surface, so the rankings you earned arrive on the new site.
Migrations we have run
Certified, not badge-only Most traffic lost in a replatform is lost in the redirect map, and it is lost silently.
Read the case studiesAn seo migration service earns its fee in the fortnight before launch, not after it. The work that saves the traffic is unglamorous and has to happen while the old site still exists: a full crawl of what currently ranks, a redirect map written URL by URL rather than generated by pattern, and a decision on every page that is not being carried across. Once the new site is live, an seo website migration agency is doing damage assessment instead, and the pages that lost their rankings mostly do not get them back.
Shopify migrationFour stages, one team
How we move a store without losing search traffic
The old site stays live and untouched until every redirect has passed on staging.
-
Inventory
Every URL that holds a ranking, a link or traffic, from every source that knows about one.
-
Map
One-to-one redirects agreed and documented, with the exceptions justified.
-
Test before launch
The full map run against a staging environment, every redirect resolving in one hop.
-
Monitor
Daily checks post-launch, with a rollback position agreed in advance.
Before launch
Where the traffic is saved or lost. Every URL that ranks, holds a link or brings a visit gets a destination, or a written reason it does not.
Bordeaux12
WooCommerce move, SEO carried through
Website migration seo
Every URL logged before anything moved
Bordeaux12 sells authenticated vintage designer pieces, and every piece is the only one. The store ran on WordPress and WooCommerce, Google had indexed it, and moving it meant carrying the whole catalogue, a nested category tree and every page Google already knew about.
We crawled the old site first and gave every URL on it a destination on the new store or a written decision to let it go. Shopify collections do not nest, so where flattening the tree changed an address, a 301 went with it, and every redirect was in place when the domain moved.
Seo migration services
What an SEO migration covers
Four pieces of work, and the first two decide most of the outcome, because they happen while the old site still exists.
Before launch
The URL inventory
Crawl, analytics, Search Console and log files combined. A sitemap alone misses the old URLs that still hold links.
Redirect mapping
One to one wherever a match exists. Chained redirects and bulk redirects to the homepage are how a migration leaks.
At the switch
Parity checks
Titles, headings, structured data, internal links and content, compared old against new before launch.
The map, tested
Run against staging, every redirect resolving in one hop, then re-checked on the morning of the switch.
After launch
Daily monitoring
Crawls and Search Console through the window where issues appear, so a problem is found in days.
A rollback position
Agreed in advance, so a bad morning has a plan attached rather than a meeting.
The switch
The map run against staging before anyone touches the domain, and run again on the morning it moves.
Ginny Litscher
New theme, every URL accounted for
Seo site migration
A new theme, and 2,073 addresses kept
Ginny Litscher hand-paints silk scarves, kimonos and wallpaper in Switzerland and sells them in eight markets. We replaced her old theme with a bespoke Horizon build on the same store, live seven days from the first commit, in time for her SS27 show at London Fashion Week.
A theme change is a migration too, and a fast one is where addresses get lost. We baselined 2,115 URLs across her languages and markets before the switch: 2,073 kept their address and the rest were redirected. The old theme stayed untouched until launch, so there was always a way back.
Seo migration strategy
Why replatforming is where brands lose rankings they never get back
Most migrations are run by the people building the new site, and judged on it. The difference is what happens to the old one.
| Question | Without SEO in the room | Run as a launch gate |
|---|---|---|
| What gets mapped | The URLs in the sitemap | Every URL from the crawl, analytics, Search Console and logs |
| How redirects are written | By pattern, or in bulk to the homepage | One to one, with the exceptions justified |
| When they are tested | After launch, by the traffic graph | Against staging first, every one in one hop |
| Titles, markup and links | Rebuilt to suit the new design | Compared old against new before launch |
| Canonicals | Left to the platform default | Checked to agree with every redirect |
| After launch | The next quarterly review | Daily checks, with a rollback position agreed |
After launch
Checked daily through the weeks problems surface, with the way back agreed before it is needed.
Site migration and seo
Store, domain and email, moved together
Bessette sells new, curated luxury fashion direct online, across clothing, shoes, bags, jewellery and accessories. Two founders run it, and we work closely with both.
Alongside conversion, merchandising and paid media, we moved the store, the domain and Google Workspace together, done to protect the SEO rankings already earned. A domain move changes every address at once, which is why it gets the same map and the same watching as a platform move.

From start to finish, they were incredibly easy to work with. They understood the brief perfectly and delivered to a very high standard. Communication was excellent throughout, with quick and clear responses to any questions I had.

How we work with you
The SEO migration on its own
Someone else builds the new site; we own the inventory, the redirect map, the pre-launch test and the monitoring. Priced on the URL inventory, not the new site.
Fixed scopeInside a move we run
Where we build the new store too, the SEO work is part of the same project, so the map and the build cannot drift apart.

Worth a conversation
- Organic search brings in revenue you would notice losing
- The platform, the theme or the domain is about to change
- Your developers are strong on the build and quiet on redirects
- The launch date is set and nobody owns the URL list yet
Probably not this, yet
- Search brings in little, so there is little to protect
- The migration already happened and traffic has dropped
- You are hoping a new platform will fix weak rankings
Seo website migration services
Where this fits
So the useful version of migration seo services is a launch gate. We hold a list of the URLs that carry the traffic, check each one lands somewhere sensible on staging, and re-check them on the morning of the switch. Site launch and migrations services that skip the pre-launch crawl are selling you the report you will read afterwards.
Our Shopify migration service moves the products, customers and orders. This is the half that moves the search traffic, whether the change is platform, theme or domain, and whoever does the build.

Everything around a migration
Around a migration
The platform you are leaving
Partners
Tools we have already run on our own stores
The apps around a Shopify store decide as much as the theme does, and choosing between thousands of them is most of the work. We are a Shopify Plus Partner and we integrate the tools that sit around the platform. Every one of them runs on our own two stores before it reaches a client, so the recommendation you get comes from having paid for the thing and lived with it. When a brand already runs a stack that works, we integrate with it rather than rebuilding it to suit us.
How we use themStraight answers
Do you offer SEO migration services on their own, without a full rebuild?
Yes. Most of our seo migration services work is exactly that: the site is changing platform or structure for reasons that have nothing to do with search, and our job is making sure rankings survive it. A website migration seo service in that shape is scoped separately from a rebuild, priced on the size of the URL inventory rather than the size of the new site.
What does an SEO migration strategy actually look like on paper?
A seo migration plan is really just the four steps above written down with dates and owners: inventory, map, test, monitor. We have never seen a seo migration strategy fail because the four steps were wrong, only because one of them was skipped or rushed. Seo migrations go wrong in the gap between the plan and what actually ships, which is why we test the redirect map before launch rather than after.
Is this the same as general SEO website migration services, or Shopify-specific?
General. Seo website migration services here cover any replatform, not only a move onto Shopify: WooCommerce, Magento, a custom build, whatever the old and new systems are. A seo site migration only fails at the redirect map, and site migration and seo problems both trace back to the same handful of mistakes whichever platform is involved.
Who actually needs SEO for a site migration, versus just a good developer?
Anyone with organic traffic worth protecting. Seo for site migration work is different from general development because the goal is not a better site, it is the same rankings on a different system, and those are genuinely different briefs. A developer without seo for site migration experience will get the redesign right and the redirect map wrong, which is the expensive half. That is why the usual brief is a website migration SEO consultant working alongside the developer, not instead of them.
How do you handle canonical redirects when the URLs change?
Carefully, because this is where migrations leak. A canonical redirect points browsers and crawlers at the one true URL: the 301 moves the visitor, the canonical tag on the destination confirms the new address, and the two must agree. When they disagree, Google picks its own canonical and your rankings follow its choice rather than yours, which is the quiet version of a failed migration.
Can you work alongside the developers building the new site?
Yes, and it is the most common shape. We need access to staging and a say in the launch date. The map, the tests and the go or no-go on the morning of the switch are ours; the build stays theirs.
