Web design & search · Hotels & hospitality

Hotel web design that gets the direct booking, not just the browse.

A visitor comparing hotels is often one tab away from a booking platform that takes a cut of the room rate. The site’s job is to make booking direct at least as easy as booking through one of those, and show enough of the room and the place to justify it.

01 Why hotels and hospitality businesses work with us

Direct booking has to beat the platforms on ease, not just price

A guest who lands on a hotel’s own site and then has to hunt for a booking button, or hits a clunky third-party widget, goes straight back to the platform they came from. Web development here means building the booking path to be at least as fast as the alternative, because that is the actual competition.

One team for the site, the ads and the search

A hotel does not want three suppliers to referee. We build the site, run the Google and Meta ads, and do the search work behind it, so the click the ads paid for lands on a page built to convert, wired into the CRM you already run so a booking is tracked rather than retyped. Built to hold as you scale it, across the UK and the US.

See that work

The room has to be sold on the page, not just listed

Photography, room descriptions and the details a guest actually checks, the view, the bed configuration, what is walking distance, do more work than a generic gallery. We build the room and rate pages to answer what a guest is actually deciding between.

02 How a direct booking gets taken back off the platform

A booking platform is not a marketing channel, it is a distribution cost that arrives on every room it sells. Nothing here is a lead you buy from us. It is a machine you own: a booking path at least as easy as the platform, search that reaches the guest before they open one, and a reason to book direct that is stated rather than implied.

  1. Direct has to be easier than the platform, not merely cheaper

A guest will pay the same to book direct if it takes the same number of taps. Most hotel sites lose them at a booking engine that opens in a new window, asks for more, and looks like a different company. Fixing that path is worth more than any discount you could offer.

  2. The reason to book direct has to be on the page, in words

Best rate guaranteed means nothing beside a platform showing the same number. A late checkout, an upgrade at the desk, breakfast included, parking held: concrete things the platform cannot sell, stated where somebody comparing two tabs will actually see them.

  3. Search reaches the guest before the platform does

People search a place and a reason long before they open a booking site. Dog friendly, near a station, a festival weekend, somewhere for a wedding party. Those terms are winnable, the platforms are not contesting them the same way, and a booking arriving through one costs you nothing per room.

  4. Ads defend your own name, which is the cheapest room you sell

Somebody typing your hotel name has already chosen you, and a platform is bidding to intercept that click and charge commission on it. Holding your own brand term is usually the highest return in the account and the first thing worth checking. Meta ads for hotels do the other half of the job, showing the room and the place to people planning a trip before they have picked anywhere.

  5. You should be able to see which channel filled which room

The number that matters is not occupancy, it is what each booking cost to acquire. Direct against platform, by rate, by season, and by the search that produced it. Without that, commission is a bill rather than a decision.

Hotel web design questions, answered

What experience do you have with hotels and hospitality businesses?

The work a hotel needs is the work we do: a site whose job is the enquiry rather than a checkout, ads that have to pay for themselves, and search that keeps the right work coming in. What we do is the whole engine: Google Ads and Meta for the enquiries you need this month, SEO for the ones that keep arriving without a media budget behind them, and a funnel between the two that brings the cost per lead down and qualifies what reaches your team. It connects to the CRM you already run, so a lead is tracked rather than retyped, and it is built as a foundation you can scale on rather than something that breaks at three times the volume. Founder-led, 100+ builds across the UK and the US. Tell us how your direct bookings arrive today and we will show you where the site, the ads and the search move first.

Do you only build Shopify sites?

No. Shopify is where most of our work sits because most of our clients sell products online, and a hotel usually does not sell that way. We build on whatever fits the job. This site runs on Astro and Cloudflare, and the surfacing contractor runs on WordPress.

Can you integrate a booking engine or channel manager?

Usually, yes. Most booking engines and channel managers offer an embed or an API, and we would connect to whichever one you already run rather than build a second system. What is possible depends on the provider, which is the first thing we would ask.

We take bookings through third-party platforms already. Is our own site still worth it?

Usually, because those platforms take a commission on every booking that goes through them, and a guest who books directly costs you nothing extra. The site does not have to replace the platforms, it has to give a guest who already knows you a reason to book direct instead.

Do you run search or paid media for hotels?

Yes, and it is usually worth pairing with the site work rather than running separately: a strong direct-booking page is wasted if the only traffic finding it comes through a platform that takes a cut. Hotel seo is the term for that work, and the whole point of it is winning the booking the platform would otherwise take a commission on.

The booking sites bid on our own hotel name. Should we bid on it too?

Usually yes, and it feels wrong until you look at the numbers. Someone searching your hotel by name has already chosen you, and if an agency ad sits above your own listing that booking arrives with commission attached instead of at full margin. Brand clicks are cheap and defending them is normally the highest-return advertising a hotel can run.

How do we make direct booking more attractive without breaking rate parity?

By adding value rather than cutting the rate, which is what parity clauses actually restrict. Room upgrades, late checkout, breakfast included, a drink on arrival, flexible cancellation and a members rate behind a sign-in are all routes hotels use, and they cost less than the commission. Check your own contracts before we build any of it.

How much does photography matter?

It is most of the decision. A hotel is bought on the strength of the pictures, and the agency listings you compete with are professionally shot, so your own site looking worse than your OTA page is a common and expensive own goal. Rooms in daylight, the actual bed, the actual view, and no wide-angle distortion that leaves a guest disappointed on arrival.

Should we build pages about local events and attractions?

Yes, and it is the most reliable organic route a hotel has. People search where to stay for a festival, a wedding venue, a race weekend or a walking route long before they search hotels in the town, and a genuinely useful page about that arrives ahead of the booking sites for once. It also earns local links, which nothing else on a hotel site does.

What should we spend on advertising, and on what?

Brand defence first, because it is cheap and it converts. Then the specific searches that describe your property rather than the generic ones, dog friendly, near the venue, with parking, family rooms. We would keep metasearch to a controlled test until the direct booking path on the site is genuinely good, because sending paid traffic to a weak booking engine subsidises your competitors.

Are you a hotel web design agency, or a hotel website design company specifically?

Same team either way. A hotel web design agency and a hotel website design agency describe the same brief here; a hotel website design company is just the more corporate-sounding version of the same search. If you would rather work with one hotel web designer directly than a full team, tell us early and we will say honestly whether that is the right shape for your project.

Can you remarket to people who checked availability but never booked?

Yes, and it is a different job from brand-bidding. Somebody who checked your rates has already decided on the property, so remarketing to them directly, rather than only through a platform that takes a commission, is usually the cheapest booking you will win.
