Shopify Plus benefits
Published
Plus is the same platform with the ceiling taken off, and the ceiling only matters if you are hitting it. Here is what you actually get, what Shopify charges for it in the UK, and the point at which the numbers stop arguing against you.
What Plus actually is
Shopify Plus is a pricing tier, not a separate product. The admin is the same admin, Liquid is the same Liquid, and the apps you already run keep working. Nothing you have built gets thrown away, which is the first thing worth knowing because the name implies otherwise.
What changes is a set of limits. Some of those limits are the reason brands move, and some are things most stores will never touch. Separating the two is the entire decision, so this page is organised around it rather than around a list of features.
What only Plus gives you
These are the genuine exclusives, and if none of them describes a problem you currently have, the rest of this page will probably talk you out of the upgrade.
Checkout you can actually change
Standard plans get limited checkout customisation. Plus gets full customisation, through checkout extensibility and Shopify Functions. In practice that means discount logic, delivery rules, payment method rules and B2B pricing can live inside the checkout rather than in an app sitting in front of it. It is the single most common reason a brand outgrows Advanced.
Expansion stores for other markets
Plus includes additional stores at no extra subscription, which is how multi-region brands run a separate storefront per market where Shopify Markets alone is not enough. If you are trading in more than one country and fighting the single-store model, this is the feature you are missing. We cover the trade-off in internationalisation.
B2B without a second platform
Unlimited B2B catalogs against three on every standard plan, with company accounts, per-customer pricing and payment terms native to the platform. For a brand running wholesale alongside DTC, this replaces a whole category of workaround. More on how we build it in B2B and wholesale.
Headroom: staff, locations and API limits
Unlimited staff accounts against 15 on Advanced. Two hundred inventory locations against ten. And up to 500% higher API call limits, which only matters if you are running heavy integrations, but matters enormously when you are. Bot protection and high-volume checkout sit in the same category: invisible until the day they are not.
What you would get anyway
Being straight about this is more useful than another bullet list, because these are the things most often presented as Plus benefits when they are not.
Speed is not one of them. Plus and Advanced serve from the same infrastructure. Store performance is a function of theme weight, image strategy and how many apps are injecting script into the page, and none of those change with the plan.
Nor is design. There is no Plus-only theme capability that a well-built Advanced store cannot match. What you can build is the same; what you can change inside the checkout is not.
Nor, mostly, is support. Plus adds priority 24/7 phone support and a launch manager, which is real and worth something during a migration. It is not worth £1,800 a month on its own.
What it costs
Shopify’s published UK pricing, read 6 August 2026. The Advanced column is there because it is the plan almost everyone moves from, and the comparison is the only way the Plus figure means anything.
| Advanced | Plus | |
|---|---|---|
| Monthly | £344 | from £1,800 |
| Yearly, per month | £259 | Negotiated |
| Online card rate | 1.5% + 25p | 1.3% + 25p |
| Third-party gateway fee | 0.6% | 0.2% |
| Staff accounts | 15 | Unlimited |
| Inventory locations | 10 | 200 |
| B2B catalogs | 3 | Unlimited |
| Checkout customisation | Limited | Full |
Shopify’s published UK pricing, read 6 August 2026. Plus is quoted as a starting price, so what you are offered depends on volume and term. The full plan-by-plan breakdown, including the fee that costs more than the plan, is in Shopify pricing in the UK.
When it pays for itself
Moving up costs more in subscription and less in processing, so there is a revenue figure where the two cancel. It is worth doing this sum before any conversation with a salesperson, and you can do it from the table above.
Plus saves 0.2% on card processing for roughly £1,541 a month more than Advanced. Those meet at about £770,500 a month, or £9.2 million a year.
So on processing alone, Plus is a worse deal than Advanced for the overwhelming majority of brands that are offered it. That is not an argument against Plus. It is an argument against the reason people are most often given for moving to it, and it means the decision has to rest on the exclusives above.
The third-party gateway fee changes the picture if it applies to you: 0.6% to 0.2% is a bigger saving than the card rate, and on a store not using Shopify Payments it can move the break-even a long way. The better answer is usually to stop paying that fee rather than to buy a discount on it.
Who it is genuinely for
Brands hitting a limit they can name. If you can finish the sentence “we cannot do X because the platform will not let us”, and X is checkout logic, a second market, wholesale pricing or API throughput, then Plus is the answer and the price is secondary.
Brands whose operations have outgrown the account model, which is quieter and more common than it sounds. Fifteen staff accounts across a warehouse, a support team, a marketing team and two agencies runs out, and what happens next is shared logins.
Brands doing enough volume that the processing saving is real money. Above roughly £770,500 a month the card rate alone pays for the tier, and everything else comes free.
Who should wait
If your reason for moving is speed, conversion rate or design quality, the plan is not your constraint and the money is better spent on the store. A checkout that converts a percentage point better is worth more than the entire difference in subscription, at any volume.
If your reason is that growth feels like it needs a bigger plan, wait for a specific limit to bite. Advanced handles a great deal more than most people assume, and moving early buys a ceiling you are not near.
If your reason is that an agency told you to, ask them which of the exclusives above you are going to use in the next twelve months. If the answer is vague, that is your answer.
What moving involves
Less than a replatform and more than a switch. Because Plus is the same platform, your store, data and apps carry over, so there is no migration in the sense of moving off Magento or WooCommerce. What there is: the checkout work you moved for, any B2B or expansion store setup, and re-testing every integration against the new limits.
The work that actually takes time is the reason you moved, not the move itself. If that reason is checkout extensibility, budget for building it, because turning Plus on gives you the ability rather than the outcome. That build is what we do on Shopify Plus development.
Questions we get asked
How much is Shopify Plus in the UK?
It starts at £1,800 a month, and the card rate improves to 1.3% + 25p from Advanced's 1.5% + 25p. Shopify quote it as a starting price rather than a fixed one, so the figure you are offered depends on your volume and term. Everything on this page is Shopify's published UK pricing as at 6 August 2026.
Is Shopify Plus worth it?
It depends entirely on whether you need the things only Plus has, because the money does not work on its own. The improved card rate saves 0.2% over Advanced for roughly £1,541 a month more, which does not break even until around £770,500 a month in sales. If you are moving for checkout control, B2B, expansion stores or API limits, it can be worth it far below that. If you are moving to save on processing, check the arithmetic first.
What is the difference between Shopify and Shopify Plus?
Plus is the enterprise tier of the same platform rather than a different product, so your theme, apps and admin all work the same way. What changes is the ceiling: checkout you can genuinely customise, unlimited staff accounts, 200 inventory locations, unlimited B2B catalogs, higher API limits and expansion stores for other markets. We compare the tiers directly in Shopify vs Shopify Plus.
Can you customise the Shopify Plus checkout?
Yes, and it is the most common reason brands move. Standard plans get limited checkout customisation; Plus gets full customisation through checkout extensibility and Shopify Functions, which is how you build things like custom discount logic, delivery rules or B2B pricing into the checkout itself rather than bolting an app on in front of it.
Does Shopify Plus make your store faster?
Not by itself, and anyone telling you otherwise is selling. Plus and Advanced serve from the same infrastructure. What Plus changes is headroom, mainly the higher API limits, which matters if your store is doing heavy integration work. Store speed is overwhelmingly a function of theme weight, images and apps.
How many staff accounts does Shopify Plus include?
Unlimited, against 15 on Advanced and 5 on Grow. For a brand running a warehouse team, a customer service team and agency partners on the same store, this is a bigger practical difference than it sounds, because the alternative is people sharing logins, which is a security problem rather than an inconvenience.
What are the actual benefits of Shopify Plus, beyond the checkout?
The real shopify plus advantages sit in headroom rather than any single feature: expansion stores for other markets, unlimited B2B catalogs, and the API limits that matter once your integrations get heavy. The shopify plus features that get sold hardest, checkout customisation and unlimited staff, are genuinely the two most people actually use.
Is Shopify Plus international, or are the shopify plus solutions here UK-specific?
International by design. Multi-currency, multi-language and expansion stores are built for selling across markets, which is why Shopify Plus international deployments are common among the brands we work with. The shopify plus solutions you actually need depend on how many markets you sell into, not on which country you are based in.
We will tell you if you do not need it.
We build on Plus and we also run our own DTC brands on Shopify with our own money, which is why the arithmetic above is on this page rather than left out of it. If your reason for moving does not survive that sum, we would rather say so before the invoice than after.
