Best social media marketing agencies in the UK

Published

We are one of the eight agencies on this page and we have put ourselves first, so read it knowing both of those things. The order is a fit ranking for one named reader, not a quality ranking, and the basis is written down in the next section so you can disagree with it. Every claim below is that agency’s own public statement, read from their own site, and every one of the other seven carries a line naming what it does better than us, including the three that beat us outright on the half of social media marketing we do not sell.

How this list is ordered

The order ranks one thing, and naming it is the whole point. It ranks how directly the team spending your social budget can fix what happens after the click. We are first on that basis, because we run paid ads and performance marketing for ecommerce brands and we build the store the traffic lands on, and the two sit in the same room rather than at two suppliers who each believe the problem is the other one’s.

That is a stated basis rather than a score, and it is the part to argue with. Rank for a different reader and the list reorders, honestly and immediately. If what you need is a content calendar, a community manager and a creator programme, we are the wrong entry and three of the seven below are the right ones. Their cards say so in their own words rather than in a hedge, which is the test we would ask you to apply to any list including this one.

So the reader this order is built for is specific: an ecommerce brand whose social spend has to come back as revenue, not as reach. It is not built for a brand whose problem is that its channels look abandoned. Both are real problems and they are bought from different companies, which is the single most useful thing on this page and the reason the comparison table below exists.

How this list was built

Eight agencies and no scores. After us the order is alphabetical, with the productised service last because it is a different kind of purchase rather than a worse one. There is no ranking below the first seat, and that is deliberate: scoring these against each other would mean pretending one number can compare a four-office influencer network with a £50-a-month posting service, and it cannot.

Every description is that agency’s own public statement, read from their own website on 25 August 2026, not from a directory or a third-party ranking. Where an agency states nothing on a point, this page says nothing rather than filling the gap, which is why some entries name clients and others do not. Each one carries a line about what to watch for, and those are ours rather than theirs.

Candidate names came from search results for social media marketing companies uk-side, and then every claim was verified at source. That distinction matters more here than in most categories: the pages currently ranking as the best social media marketing companies, or as the top social media marketing agencies, are almost all written by agencies who appear in them. They are a reasonable way to find names and a bad way to learn anything about them.

One thing the shortlist will not tell you, and it is worth knowing before you start. Five of the eight below are headquartered in London, ourselves included, and that is representative rather than a sampling artefact: this industry is concentrated there. If you are searching specifically for the best social media agency london has, you are searching most of the UK market by accident, and a Manchester or Bath address on this list is the exception rather than a compromise.

The one claim on this page that is ours rather than an agency’s own is the order, and it is worth being exact about what we do and do not have behind it. We can show you the stores we have built and we buy paid social daily for two brands we own. We cannot show you a social content portfolio, because there is not one to show. Where our entry claims something, it is the first kind of claim.

The eight

Elms Agency

London, working across the UK and the US

In our own words. A paid social and ecommerce performance team that also builds the store the traffic lands on. We run Meta, Google and TikTok for ecommerce brands and report on contribution margin rather than reach. Founder-led since 2018, 100+ builds, and two DTC brands of our own that we buy media for daily, with our own money.

What they lead with. Owning both halves of the same funnel. The people buying your social media are in the same room as the people who can change the product page, so "the ads work but revenue did not move" is a conversation rather than a hand-off between two suppliers who each think it is the other one.

What to watch. We are a paid social agency, not a social media agency, and the gap is real. No content calendar, no community management, no creator programme. If your channels look neglected, we are not the fix and three of the seven below are.

Born Social

London and New York

In their own words. Describes itself as a "Global Social Media Agency", B Corp certified and "powered by Croud". Its own services page lists five practices: strategy, creative, media, channel management and influencers, covering social strategy, motion design, photography, videography, paid media planning and management, social commerce, community management, social listening and influencer contracting.

What they lead with. Social as the whole business rather than a department. The five practices are organised around social specifically, and the creative list is unusually deep for an agency that does not describe itself as a production house.

What to watch. The public site says very little about who they work with. No client list, no sectors and no founding date are stated on the homepage or the services page, so anything you want to know about sector experience has to come out of the first call.

Where they beat us. Depth of social craft, and it is not close. Five named practices built around social alone, including motion design, photography and videography in-house. We buy media; they make the thing the media carries, and for a brand that needs its whole social presence built rather than its budget spent, that is the more complete answer.

Disrupt

Hatton Garden, London

In their own words. Describes itself as "a global influencer marketing agency" combining "the science of audiences with the power of creators to deliver measurable digital success". Services span influencer and micro-influencer marketing, TikTok, Instagram, Reels and YouTube, paid social, social media marketing, content production and creator insight. States it is part of the Tomorrow Group alongside Found, Braidr, Imagen Insights and Seed, and displays 40-plus client logos including Vinted, Netflix, Huel, The Gym Group and Disney Plus.

What they lead with. Named ecommerce among its own sector list, alongside fashion, beauty and food and drink, and the client logos back it up. If creator-led work for a DTC brand is the brief, this is the entry with the most directly relevant public evidence.

What to watch. Influencer-first. If what you need is somebody to run your own channels day to day rather than to run campaigns through other people, that is a different shape of agency and this is not the one that leads with it.

Where they beat us. Creator work at a scale we do not attempt. Forty-plus client logos including Vinted, Huel and The Gym Group, a named influencer practice and the insight tooling under it. If the plan is to reach people through other people, this is the entry with the public evidence and we have none to put next to it.

House of Marketers

Earlham Street, London

In their own words. Positions itself as "the Success-Driven TikTok Marketing Agency", focused on "Scaling DTC Brands with High-Converting Influencers & Creative TikTok Marketing Campaigns". Services cover TikTok influencer campaigns, TikTok business profile content, TikTok paid ads management, influencer strategy, Instagram and YouTube campaigns, paid social and UGC. States a 250,000-plus influencer network, and its managing director Inigo Rivero is described as a former TikTok strategy and partnerships manager.

What they lead with. The narrowest and clearest brief on this page. It says DTC and it says TikTok, and the ex-platform background is the kind of specific, checkable claim most agency sites avoid making.

What to watch. That narrowness cuts both ways. If TikTok is one channel in a mix rather than the centre of the plan, a single-platform specialist is the wrong shape and you will end up buying the rest somewhere else.

Where they beat us. TikTok specifically, and a 250,000-plus creator network we could not assemble. Their managing director ran strategy and partnerships at TikTok itself. On a brief that is genuinely TikTok-first, platform-native knowledge at that depth beats a generalist paid team, and we would say so on the call.

Rise at Seven

Manchester, London and New York

In their own words. Describes itself as "Organic media planners creating, distributing & optimising search-first content for SEO, Social, PR, Ai and LLM search". Services include search and growth strategy, onsite SEO, content experience, AI visibility and GEO, digital PR, social media and campaigns, and what it calls social SEO. Public work includes SIXT, Dojo, Red Bull, Emirates, JD Sports, Revolution Beauty and PrettyLittleThing.

What they lead with. The only entry here that treats social and search as one discipline. If your problem is discovery rather than conversion, and you have noticed that people now search inside TikTok and Instagram as well as Google, this is the agency built around that observation.

What to watch. Social is one practice among many rather than the whole business. If you want a team whose entire attention is on your channels, that is Born Social or The Social Shepherd rather than this.

Where they beat us. Treating social and search as one discipline, and a digital PR practice that earns the links neither of us can buy. Their public work runs SIXT, Red Bull and JD Sports. If the problem is being discovered rather than being converted, they are built around that question and we are built around the one after it.

Socially Powerful

London, New York, Dubai and Beijing

In their own words. States it provides "end-to-end social marketing services, from influencer campaigns and paid social to content production, community management and social commerce", with a team of "200+ experts" working "across 20+ languages" since 2017. Names Amazon, TikTok, L’Oréal, Red Bull, ULTA Beauty, Ralph Lauren, Hyundai and Toyota as clients, and runs a proprietary campaign-tracking platform it calls ARIA.

What they lead with. Scale and reach. Four offices, twenty-plus languages and a client list at that level is a genuinely different proposition from everything else on this page, and it is the entry to look at first if the campaign has to run in several markets at once.

What to watch. An agency built for Amazon and L’Oréal is not automatically built for a brand doing six figures a year. Ask early where you would sit in their client base, because on a list like that it is a fair question rather than a rude one.

Where they beat us. Scale and reach, straightforwardly. Two hundred-plus people, four offices, twenty-plus languages and Amazon, L’Oréal and Ralph Lauren on the client list. A campaign that has to run in several markets at once is a job we would decline and they do weekly.

The Social Shepherd

London, Bath, New York and Miami

In their own words. Five service areas stated on its own site: social strategy, content and community; performance paid social and search; social creative, production and design; influencer campaigns and UGC creators; and a dedicated TikTok Shop practice covering creator affiliates and content. States "200+ CLIENTS Transformed in the last 7 years", claims "92% OF BRANDS Grow within 90 days of working with us", and says it has been named best large social agency three years running. Public clients include UNIQLO, ASICS, Arla and Lavazza.

What they lead with. The TikTok Shop practice is the most ecommerce-specific offering anywhere on this page. Creator affiliate selling is a genuinely different discipline from creator advertising, and very few agencies have built a named practice around it.

What to watch. The "92% of brands grow within 90 days" figure is their own claim with no stated method, sample or definition of growth attached. That is not a reason to discount them, but it is the sort of number to ask about rather than accept.

Where they beat us. The TikTok Shop practice, which is the most directly ecommerce-relevant thing on this page and we do not have an equivalent. Creator affiliate selling is its own discipline, and they have built a named team around it while most agencies are still calling it influencer marketing.

50 Pound Social

UK, stated as a "UK-Based Team, Real People, Real Results"

In their own words. A productised service rather than an agency retainer: "We create, schedule, and post content for your business every week, keeping your profiles active and professional", with branded graphics, captions, hashtags and an approval dashboard. Paid social, TikTok management, community management and email are sold alongside. Published plans, read 25 August 2026, run £50 a month plus VAT for one post a week on one platform, £100 for three posts a week on two platforms, and £225 for the same with video. States "No contracts, cancel anytime" and "Trusted Since 2016", and names ecommerce stores among the businesses it serves.

What they lead with. It publishes its prices, which nothing else on this page does, and at that price it is competing with the cost of not bothering rather than with the six agencies above. For a small business whose profiles are simply dormant, that is a real and honest product.

What to watch. It is content production at a price point, not strategy. Nobody is going to work out your positioning for £50 a month, and expecting that is how this kind of service gets a bad name it has not earned.

Where they beat us. Price, and honesty about it. Nobody else here will keep your profiles alive for £50 a month, us included, and for a business whose social is simply dormant that is a real product rather than a cheap one. It is also the only entry on this page that publishes what it charges.

Who does what, at a glance

Four social disciplines, plus the store underneath, against what each agency states on its own site. Read the column headings as four different purchases rather than four features of one, because that is what they are.

Stated service coverage, read from each agency’s own site on 25 August 2026. “Not stated” means their site does not say, not that they do not do it.

The last column is the one that separates this page from every other social media agency shortlist, and it is also the one where our own row is the outlier. All seven of the other agencies state organic channel work and will run your channels better than we would. None of them will change the product page when the traffic arrives and the revenue does not, because that is a store design and conversion rate optimisation job rather than a social one.

What it actually costs

Seven of the eight publish nothing, and that includes us. It is the finding, and it is worth stating plainly rather than filling the gap with a made-up range: on 25 August 2026 the only agency here with prices on its own site was 50 Pound Social, at £50 to £225 a month plus VAT depending on posting frequency and whether video is included.

For the rest, the shape of the quote matters more than the number. Managed organic content is normally a monthly fee. Paid social is normally a fee plus your media budget, and the fee is often a percentage of the spend, which means it rises as you scale whether or not the work does. Influencer campaigns are usually a project fee plus talent costs, and talent costs are the larger half. An award winning social media agency and a small local one can quote the same monthly figure and mean completely different things by it, so ask which of those three shapes you are being sold before you compare anybody on price.

The percentage-of-spend model is worth a second look, because it is near-universal among paid social agencies and it quietly changes whose interest the budget serves. A social media advertising firm on ten per cent of spend earns more by spending more, and nothing in that arrangement rewards it for telling you the account has stopped scaling profitably. It is not a scandal and most agencies charge this way, including plenty of good ones. It is a question worth asking out loud: what would have to happen for you to recommend I spend less.

Two costs sit outside the fee entirely and get left out of most comparisons. Creative volume is the first: paid social burns through assets faster than any other channel, and a social media advertising company that cannot produce at that rate will quietly spend your budget on tired ads. The second is everything downstream of the click, which is a conversion cost rather than a media one, and it is the one nobody quotes for because it is not theirs to quote for.

How to choose between them

Start by naming which of the four jobs you are buying, because the label covers all of them and the agencies are not interchangeable. Organic channel management, paid social media buying, creative production, and influencer or creator campaigns are four different businesses. Every agency above will do more than one; each of them leads with one, and the one they lead with is the one you should hire them for.

Then match the shape to your size honestly. A social media marketing agency for small business is generally selling a fixed monthly package, which is the right product for a business that needs its profiles to look alive and does not have the budget for strategy. A social media agency for small businesses that promises bespoke strategy at package prices is promising something the maths does not support. At the other end, a four-office network with an enterprise client list can absolutely take a smaller brand on, but you should ask who would actually be in the room.

The label a shortlist is built from matters less than most people expect. A best social media agency list, a social media management agency uk directory and a social media marketing services roundup return substantially the same companies, because the category is one market wearing several names. Where the shortlists genuinely differ is the four jobs above, not the wording of the search.

Two questions get you further than a feature comparison. Which of your own channels would you point to as your best work, and why that one? And who is doing the day-to-day work, as opposed to who is in this meeting? The second question is the one that separates a top social media agencies uk shortlist into agencies you would actually enjoy working with.

If you are an ecommerce brand, add a third. Ask what they would want changed on the site before they start spending. An ecommerce social media marketing agency that has never looked at your product page before quoting is optimising the half of the funnel it can see.

Shortlisting paid specifically narrows it further and the vocabulary shifts with it. Search paid social agencies, or a paid social ads agency, or social media advertising agencies, and you surface a different set of companies from the one a social media management search returns, with different reporting and a different idea of what good looks like. The tell is the first number they show you. A paid social media advertising company that opens with reach is selling awareness; one that opens with return on ad spend is at least measuring the right thing, even before you check whether it is measuring it honestly.

And check what happens when paid is not the answer. Some months the cheaper win is ecommerce SEO, or email to the list you already own, and an agency whose only product is media buying has no reason to say so. If the brief is enquiries rather than orders, that is lead generation and a different build again. We would rather tell you that than take the budget, which is easy to write and worth asking us to prove on a call.

Where we stop, honestly

We are first on this list on a basis we chose, so the fair thing is to be exact about where that basis runs out. We sell paid social and the store underneath it. We do not sell organic content production, community management or influencer campaigns, we do not employ a content team, and we are not going to start pretending otherwise three paragraphs after putting ourselves at the top of a page about social media marketing.

So if your channels are the problem, hire for the channels. Born Social, Socially Powerful and The Social Shepherd all run the full organic practice we do not, and any of the three will do that job better than we would on our best day. Buying paid media from us and organic from one of them is a completely sane arrangement, and it is the one we would suggest if you asked.

Where we are the right first call is the pattern this page keeps returning to. An agency delivers the traffic it promised, the click-through rate is fine, and revenue does not move, because the product page loads slowly on a phone or the delivery cost appears for the first time at checkout. That is not a social problem and no social agency can fix it. A store audit answers it faster than a new agency does, and if you want the same argument made about search rather than social, what a CRO agency actually does and how to increase an ecommerce conversion rate cover the downstream half properly.

If you are shortlisting for the build as well as the media, our sibling pages carry that field: top Shopify agencies and the best ecommerce SEO companies, both written the same way, both with us in them, and both saying where the others beat us.

Questions people ask

Why is Elms Agency first on its own list?
Because the order ranks one thing and we say which: how directly the team buying your social media can fix what happens after the click. We are a paid social agency and a Shopify build team in the same room, so on that one basis we go first. It is a stated basis rather than a score, and it is the part to argue with. Rank for a different reader and the list reorders: if you need a content calendar, a community manager and a creator programme, three of the agencies above beat us outright and their own entries say so.
What does a paid social agency do that a social media agency does not?
It buys media and answers for the return, rather than owning your channels. A paid social ads agency takes a budget into Meta, TikTok and the rest and is judged on revenue against spend; a social media management agency owns the calendar, the content and the replies and is judged on the channel looking alive. Both are legitimate and most brands eventually want both, but they are different purchases with different reporting, and the fastest way to waste this budget is to buy one while measuring the other.
What should social media advertising services actually report on?
Contribution margin, and it is worth insisting. A social media advertising company that reports reach, impressions and engagement is reporting things that cannot be banked. Ask for spend, revenue, and what is left after cost of goods and shipping. We report that way on our own brands because we buy the media with our own money, which is a different discipline from spending somebody else’s and reporting the flattering half.
What does a social media marketing agency actually do?
Four fairly different jobs that get sold under one label. Organic content and channel management is the day-to-day posting, calendar and community work. Paid social is media buying against Meta, TikTok and the rest. Creative and production is shooting the assets. Influencer and creator work is finding, briefing and contracting other people to make them. Very few agencies are genuinely strong at all four, which is why asking who does the best social media marketing services in the abstract has no answer: the honest question is who does the one you actually need.
How much does a social media agency cost in the UK?
The honest answer is that almost nobody publishes it. Of the eight here, ourselves included, exactly one does: 50 Pound Social lists plans from £50 to £225 a month plus VAT, read from their own site on 25 August 2026. The other seven, us among them, quote on scope. As a rough shape, a managed organic channel with original content sits in the low thousands a month, and influencer or paid campaigns are usually a media budget plus a fee on top rather than a flat retainer.
Do I need a social media agency or a paid social agency?
They are different purchases and conflating them is the most common way this budget gets wasted. If the problem is that your channels look neglected, you want organic content and community management. If the problem is that you need more revenue this quarter, you want paid social and a media budget, and a beautiful grid will not deliver it. Ask any agency which of the two they are actually pitching before you compare prices.
Should an ecommerce brand hire a specialist social agency or a full-service one?
It depends what is currently broken. An ecommerce social media marketing agency that only runs the channels cannot fix a product page that loses the sale after the click, and plenty of DTC brands discover the leak is downstream of the ad. If your social is genuinely underperforming and the store converts, hire the specialist. If the store is the problem, fixing that first makes every social pound work harder.
Is a social media marketing agency for small business a different kind of agency?
Usually yes, and it is worth being honest about why. A social media agency for small businesses is generally selling a productised package at a fixed monthly fee, because bespoke strategy does not fit the budget. That is a legitimate product, not a worse one. The mismatch happens when a small business buys a bespoke retainer it cannot feed with product, or an enterprise brand buys a template package and wonders why the work looks generic.
Is a paid social specialist different from a social media management agency?
Different job, often different company. A social media management agency uk-side is generally selling channel ownership: the calendar, the content, the replies. There is no best paid social agency in the abstract, because the question is entirely dependent on what you sell and at what margin; the best paid social media agency for you is simply the one that will take a media budget and return revenue on it, and that team lives closer to a performance marketing agency than to a content one. Several of the agencies above genuinely do both, but every one of them leads with one, and the one they lead with is where their best people are.
What about Instagram or TikTok specifically?
Single-platform briefs are common and they narrow the field usefully. Searching for the best instagram marketing agency will surface both generalists with an Instagram practice and true specialists, and the distinction to make is whether the platform is their whole product or one channel in a plan. House of Marketers above is the clearest single-platform example on this list, built around TikTok. A specialist is the right call when one platform is genuinely carrying the brand, and the wrong one when it is simply the platform you personally use most.
Can you trust a list of agencies written by an agency?
Judge it on two things, and apply both to this page. Whether the basis for the order is stated, and whether every entry is allowed to beat the author at something. We are first here and we have everything to gain from that, which is exactly why the basis is written down in the second section and why each of the seven other agencies carries a line naming what it does better than us. Every other social media agency listicle on the first page of results for this query is published by an agency that appears in its own list, usually first, and almost none of them do either of those things.

If the problem is downstream of the ad

We will not pitch you a social retainer, because we do not sell one. What we will do is take the media budget and answer for what comes back, or look at the store first and tell you the media is not your problem. Both are short conversations and neither needs a brief.
