Shopify agency Bristol
Shopify in Bristol, for brands with a real story to carry.
Bristol has one of the densest concentrations of sustainable, ethical and independent food and drink brands in the UK, and those businesses tend to arrive with a genuine story rather than a manufactured one. The build problem that follows is usually how to carry that story through a product page without slowing it down or turning it into a wall of text nobody reads.
We design, build and market Shopify stores for these businesses from one senior UK team: design, development, search, paid media, email and conversion work under one roof, with nothing passed to a subcontractor.
Cream Cornwall, from the South West, came to us for a build and a migration and kept us on for consultancy.
Shopify support and maintenance
Support from the developers who already know your store.
A monthly retainer for stores that have outgrown a ticket queue: theme and app updates tested before they reach checkout, subscription and bundle logic kept working, and a senior developer on hand when something breaks.
Fittr Nutrition, one of our own brands, runs on the same plan we sell, which is the fairest test we know of whether it is worth the fee.
Every month ends with a short written record of what was done and what we would look at next.
Shopify SEO
Search that ranks the story without burying the product.
Technical audits, keyword research, content and site structure on Shopify and Shopify Plus, built for brands whose sourcing and certifications are part of why people buy. We also optimise for the AI assistants shoppers now ask first, so the answer they get names you.
Black Sand started with no storefront and now sells worldwide, with search among the channels behind it. Waldo, a Swiss dive watch brand, runs its SEO and paid media with us in a category where heritage names dominate.
The people who build the store write its content and internal links, so improvements ship in the theme rather than waiting in a report.
Shopify developers Bristol
Themes, private apps and integrations, written by hand.
Our developers write Liquid, JavaScript and theme architecture directly rather than stacking page builders. A brand that needs a bespoke theme gets one; a sound theme gets extended properly, with an honest view of which you need.
Beyond the storefront we build private apps for the workflows no public app covers, subscription and bundle logic that holds up, and integrations with the ERP, 3PL and CRM already running your business.
Custom code is written to survive theme updates, and the developer who wrote it looks after it.
Shopify web design
Where the story lives on the page.
A brand with a real story has a merchandising problem, not a copywriting one: where the story lives so it persuades without burying the thing someone came to buy. Cream Cornwall, one of our clients, trades from three shops in the South West.
Every design starts with your analytics, your competitors and the points where shoppers leave. Wireframes settle what each page has to do before styling, then your brand, photography and voice go onto a layout already built to sell.
Templates are drawn to a performance budget agreed up front, so a page that carries a real story still loads quickly on a phone.
Shopify migration
Moving to Shopify without dropping subscribers or search traffic.
We move brands onto Shopify and Shopify Plus from Magento, WooCommerce, BigCommerce, Salesforce, Wix and Squarespace. For food and drink brands the delicate part is usually subscriptions: active subscribers, their billing dates and their preferences all have to arrive intact.
The platform is rarely what goes wrong. The move is: a redirect map written in launch week, product URLs that changed without anyone noticing. We plan search into the migration from the first day, and every old URL has a mapped destination before launch.
Cream Cornwall moved onto a new theme with us, and Bessette brought its store, its domain and its Google Workspace email across.
Ecommerce agency Bristol
A Shopify Plus partner, when Plus is actually the answer.
Our own stores run on Shopify Plus, so checkout extensibility, Shopify Functions, Markets and B2B are tools we have paid to use before recommending them.
For most independent brands here the honest answer is that standard Shopify is enough for now, and we will say so. When volume or a subscription base makes the checkout the constraint, that changes.
Most of our work continues as a retainer after launch: one team across build, search, paid, email and CRO, with a senior contact who knows your store.
Klaviyo email and SMS
Retention for brands that live on the reorder.
Welcome, browse and cart flows that run on their own, replenishment reminders timed to how long a product actually lasts, and segments that treat a first order differently from a tenth. SMS only where a message earns the interruption.
We build in Klaviyo and try new flows on Powerlete, our own activewear brand, before any client pays for them. For a food or drink subscription, retention is most of the business.
Flows are reviewed on a schedule, because one nobody has opened in a year is still sending.
Selling overseas
Taking a Bristol brand abroad without running two businesses.
Selling overseas starts with decisions rather than code: one store with Markets or several, how prices and currency behave, what gets translated, and which products can practically ship where. Food and drink adds labelling and shelf life to that list.
We set up Markets, local pricing, duties and payment methods so the store reads as local wherever it sells. Black Sand went from no storefront to worldwide sales, built for international buyers from the start.
Where a separate storefront genuinely earns its keep, Shopify Plus expansion stores run it within the same organisation.
WUKA
Client · build, conversion testing and ongoing support
Shopify CRO
Testing whether the story is helping the sale.
We review your category and competitors, watch session recordings and heatmaps, and read your order data, then rank tests by the revenue they could move. For story-led brands the first question is where the story helps a sale and where it pushes the buy button out of sight.
WUKA came to us for a store build and then a run of conversion testing on a product that has to be explained before anyone buys it. We run the same process on our own brands first.
How a project runs
Five stages, one team from brief to growth.
There is no handover between a design studio and a separate developer, which is where most budget and detail gets lost. The people who scope your project are the people who ship it.
Scope. We start from your current store, its numbers and the story you tell, and agree what the next stage has to deliver before anything is designed.
Design. Templates are drawn to a performance budget set at the start, with room for sourcing, certifications and provenance that does not push the product down the page.
Build. The developers who scoped it build it, connected to your ERP, 3PL and CRM, with subscriptions, bundles and VAT set up correctly.
Launch. Redirects, structured data and search are handled before the switch, so the rankings you have earned come with you.
Grow. Testing, paid media, email and support carry on with the same team after launch.
Ways to work with us
A build, a retainer or senior advice when you need it.
Most brands start with one of three arrangements and change as they grow. None of them puts an account manager between you and the people doing the work.
Project build. A fixed scope and a launch date: a new Shopify store, or a migration from Magento, WooCommerce, BigCommerce or Salesforce, designed, built and launched.
Growth retainer. A standing team for design, development, CRO, paid media and email on a monthly plan, which is how Knack Snacks, Poppy Elder and Nour Hammour work with us.
Consultancy partner. Your own team builds, and we advise on the platform, the channels and the next market, stepping in where it helps. Cream Cornwall and Bessette use us this way.
You work directly with the people doing the work, not an account manager passing messages along. The team that builds the store keeps running its search, ads and retention afterwards, with every tactic tried on our own brands first.
Our storyPartners
Apps we have paid for on our own stores.
Much of the work on Shopify is choosing apps well. We integrate the tools around the platform, among them Klaviyo for email and SMS, Gorgias for customer service, Loop for subscriptions and returns, Junip for reviews, Upstack Data for attribution and DataFeedWatch for product feeds. Each runs on our own stores before we recommend it, so the advice comes from paying for it rather than from a referral fee. If your current stack already works, we connect to it.
How we use themQuestions Bristol brands ask us
Do you have an office in Bristol?
- No, and we would rather say so than list a virtual address. We work with Bristol and South West brands remotely and come to see you where a project needs it. Cream Cornwall, one of our clients, runs three shops in the region and the arrangement has worked well.
We are a sustainable brand. Does that change the build?
- It changes the content more than the code. Certifications, sourcing and materials need somewhere credible to live on a product page without pushing the buy button below three screens of text. It is a merchandising and design problem, and it is one worth solving properly because it is usually the reason someone chooses you.
Do you work with food and drink brands?
- Yes. Subscriptions, bundles, short shelf lives and shipping constraints are the usual complications, and all four are solved problems on Shopify. Knack Snacks, one of our clients, is a food brand.
Is Elms a fit for a smaller Bristol brand?
- Yes. We work with brands at every stage, and the audit and consultancy services exist specifically for businesses that want senior input without committing to a full build or a retainer.
Do you work on Shopify Plus in Bristol?
- Yes, though for most of the food, drink and sustainable brands here the honest answer is not yet. What those businesses usually need is subscriptions that do not leak and a story told properly, and both work on standard Shopify. The case changes when volume or a subscription base gets big enough that the checkout itself is the constraint. We will tell you which side of that line you are on rather than quoting for the upgrade.
Do you do SEO for Bristol brands as well as the build?
- Yes. A seo services bristol uk brief for a food, drink or sustainability brand is usually about making a genuine story rank without burying the product underneath it, which is a structure problem more than a writing one. An ecommerce agency bristol enquiry generally starts with the same tension: the story is the differentiator and it is also what slows the page down. The shopify developers Bristol brands work with here are the same in-house team that writes the story into the template.
How quickly will we hear back?
- Every new enquiry gets a reply within 24 hours, from someone who would work on the project rather than a sales desk. Once we are working together, questions are answered by the developer or strategist who holds that part of the store.
Can you move our subscribers to Shopify without losing them?
- Yes. Active subscribers, their billing dates and their preferences are mapped before anything moves, and the switch is planned so nobody is charged twice or skipped. For a food or drink brand the subscriber base is usually the most valuable thing on the old platform, so it gets the most care.
Can one team handle the store and the marketing?
- Yes, and it tends to work better. The product page and the ad that points at it get planned together, so the story told in the ad is the one the page carries on. Where a specialist would serve you better, we will tell you.
Will you take over a store another agency built?
- Yes, regularly. The first month is a handover and a baseline of how the store performs, which makes every month after it quicker.
What happens after launch?
- The team that built the store stays with it. Support, testing, paid media and email carry on as a retainer, so you keep the people who already know your products, your subscribers and your story.
